DS's Football Coach "Joked" About Giving Him Steriods

Title says it all. My son's coach (well actually asst. coach) was joking about giving him steriods. He says DS is a monster out there now and would be a killer out there if he started steriods..hahaha... except he was the only one laughing. I am livid. DH is also.

But I am also shocked.... I guess I was naive enough to think that this happened "on tv"

I'd be on the phone to the head coach and principal of the school in a second. Would a teacher "joke" about smoking a joint with a kid?

I agree. Report him. I think he was just testing the waters to see how your DS would react. Make you wonder how many others he has " joked " to. I doubt he would walk up to a child and ask to shot up heroin. No difference both are illegal substances.

This its a raw nerve with me...my ex DH was a steroid freak. He started off in high school from his coach.

I asked my son about joking about steroids with coaches and he says yeah that sounds like something a coach would JOKE about but not really do and my son had a rather um unpostable remark about what else steroids would do to a fellow and why they are not a good idea. From ds's limited info about steroids I don't think he'd ever try them.

What's unpostable about "infertility and loss of sexual function"?

I assume those are the side effects your son was referring to...

We talked with the head coach and he is handling it from here. He agrees that DS is a very young (he is only 12) and impressionable and even if it was a joke, (which I believe it was, at least I seriously hope it was) it has no place on the field. There is no reason to plant that kind of seed in a young Athletes mind. I will update the outcome.

Those were the effects. You put it so much more eloquently than I could come up with. I have to thank a DARE officer.

And to the OP I totallly agree that it's not funny. What does your son know about steroids? Sounds like a teachable moment. (hugs)
