dishcloths?

so, i'm still working on my first knitting project, and am really enjoying it, and am looking forward to working on more projects. but, what do people knit? i mean, how many hats and scarves and sweaters can people use? i made (crochet) a hat for myself and one for DP that we both love. no LOs yet, so i'm not making kiddie clothes. i made a blanket for my sister as a wedding present (i think the stitch is called tunisian crochet, or something like that? i loved it!) and i made a couple of afghans for myself (actually, that was my first project: a "learn to crochet" afghan.). i've made a few scarves. but, now what? i want to try making a sweater for myself, but i have two sweaters that i wear during the winter. how many do i need? as it is, i only wear them each a few times a year.

and, dishcloths? i somehow can't see anything that i've knitted being useful as a dishcloth. i mean, are they absorbent? someone fill me in.

I knit dishcloths, but I use them as washcloths for my body. Or give them as gifts, as washcloths. They're too small for me to use as actual dishcloths. And I already have tons od dish towels. I've knit dish scrubbies - which, for me, work as well as the sponges you buy in the store.

I've knit bags and belts. I've knit lots of gifts during the holidays - gloves, scarves, hats, gift bags, arm warmers, leg warmers, socks, shawls, blankets, and stuffed animals.

I've knit loads of cat toys and a cat bed for my mom's kitty.

I've knit, and felted bowls.

I've even knit some lacey lingerie, and a lacy night dress.

Really, anything I actually need - I first think to myself "can I make that and how?" I love to craft, though.

I really enjoy knitting dishcloths. I enjoy using them even more. And my mother has put in a request for all the dishcloths I can knit. They really are better than you can imagine. I love the ballband dishcloth pattern i found in Mason Dixon Knits.

dish cloths are my absolute favorite thing to make. If Im bored I just knit or crochet them up. Takes about 1 hr. you really dont need a pattern for them, just do what every catches your fancy. Really I dont care how many I have, I usually go through 3-4 a day. You can also just make them bigger and you have dish/drying towels. Use cotton. If you want to use wool , make some potholders. :

I crochet dishcloths/wash-face cloths in many color combos.
Everyone from my mom, to MIL, to my teen and her friends use them.

I Just made a TUN of crochet washcloths... at first they where for a friend who just had a baby.. then everyone felt them and how soft they where and then everyone wanted one.

I am using a super simple pattern and cottontots

a lot of people told me that the cottontots wouldn't hold up well and it would they would wreck after the first wash, but there still super soft and doing really well!

I knit clothes for my toddler and gifts for people. I am currently working on a sweater and wool longies for my daughter, a kimono for a friend's new son, a pair of fingerless mittens for my sister, and socks for myself.

Handknit dishcloths allow the knitter to practice new stitches and to make a small commitment to a project- its small, portable and can be very beautiful and as challenging as you want it to be.
