Anyone ever experience this? My son didnt get sick for a while after he was born. Seraphim has had a temp of 101 since this morning at 7:30, I think it had to do with the forced trip the doc made us take to the er two nights ago to redo the bili count. She was freaking out on the phone and I was terrified she'd try to call social services on me the way she was going on and on. so I went against my better judgement. Her count was ok 13.6 she just needs some sun... but what do I do about the temp? I was just gonna wait till tomorrow and see how she is but looking online they suggest taking her to the er and then once there they would want to do a spinal tap on her!!! Ugh I'm in maternal hell right now... it's been one thing after another since she was born and we havent had a break from an er or doctors office. The birth was fine but then I developed anemia and was taken by ambulance to the er, she started looking jaundice so we took her to see the doc, dh had an anxiety attack and went to the er, then doc insists we go to the er for bili count... now this!
Have any of you had a newborn get a fever and be ok or do you think its serious? I hate putting her through more torture that's why I had her at home!!! I suffered so she wouldn't have to kwim?

I'm not one to flock to a doctor (we do chiro mostly) but anything above 100.4 in an infant and I'm going in.

take her in to the pediatrician or er asap.

I'm so sorry you're going through this!!

Do you have a pediatrician you can call? If you had her at home I wouldn't hesitate to call your midwife and ask for some advice.

Please contact someone, mama.

I would definately take her in. My pediatrician says to call with a temp at or above 100.4 rectally. 101 underarm or temporal is about that, so I would call. Better to be safe than sorry with temps and little, bitty ones.

I think I'd go in too-I wouldn't take a chance with a little one.
Hugs, mama-you've had a tough week!

With an infant that young I think a medical center is in order.

My son developed a high fever (103) at 8 days old and we took him in. I'm pretty crunchy when it comes to medical treatment, and I did NOT like having to put him through that, but that young, it was a wise precaution. Yes, he got a spinal tap, and a cath, blood draws, and an IV. We spent three days in the hospital. It sucked in so many ways and I hated consenting to those tests, BUT...he was only 8 days old. Things can turn very quickly at that age, and getting as much information as possible and starting treatment asap can make a huge difference in the long run.

I hope your little girl gets better quickly and you two get to enjoy your babymoon.

Ok so the thermometer I was using was this digital temple thermometer... Silly me I kept checking her temp under her arm all yesterday, under her arm it went up a few points and down a few points but stayed close to 101 in fact it still is. The temp on her temple was 99.3 yesterday and I avoided doing a rectal temp because at the er she screamed about it for over an hour afterwards and I felt awful... this morning I decided they would do much worse to her if I took her in so I decided to check it... 98.1 and I rechecked with the temple thermometer on her temple and it was also 98.1... So Thank God! She is ok! I thought she was since even the 101 wasn't going up as fevers usually do and she was no more fussy than usual plus she is still eating regularly and going potty normally. I think the higher temp yesterday was the weather and also cause she's been grunting a lot I think she has some gas. Thanks ladies for your responses, oh and if that temple thermometer is always that accurate then i suggest yall get one from a CVS pharmacy, it reads in 6 seconds.
