Appt with New Doctor tomorrow...

I had been doing well-visits, even though we don't vax, but I don't feel the need to keep up with the well visits any more. However, we've switched pediatrician practices, so I'm going to use baby's 9 mo visit tomorrow to meet the dr. I'd rather not meet the dr for the first time when the kids are sick, of course.

Anyway, I'm NOT looking forward to it! I'm nervous that the dr will kick us out for no vaxes, etc. Blah. I've read to many times on this board about that happening. What a pain it would be to have to find another dr. I don't want to have to call new drs and ask, "Are you accepting new patients? and are you going to kick us out once we get there because we don't vax?"

Any advice in broaching the subject with the new dr so that things go as smoothly as possible? The worst part is that I won't be able to support my no vax position with any stats or anything - I did all that research 4+ years ago before my oldest was born. All I remember now is that my research lead me to the conclusion that vaxes are more risky than the diseases are. I've forgotten all the specifics. Any quick fact-based refresher courses out there?

Thanks for letting me ramble,
Aven

If the doctor gives you a hard time...don't waste your time trying to argue because the doctor has his own agenda. At this time I will not be vaccinating. When it comes down to it, they will just profile you and try another marketing strategy on you. I would look until you can be comfortable with walking into an office that does not use fear and manipulation to administer thier medical agenda.

Don't be nervous and say as little as possible...if he makes you uncomfortable tell him it may be better to continue the conversation with a lawyer in the room and find another doctor...<that's what i would do...

remember not to sign anything.

btw...it wouldn't be a bad idea to bookmark some law related websites and information on the subject.

Find a GP. They do not give you a hard time because their income does not depend on you coming in all of the time for vaccinations.

Life is too short to argue with people who do not have your best interests in mind or to pay people who argue with you all of the time.

I don't think they'd accept that line, as I'm asking for all my kids to be accepted into the practice, and my oldest is 4...

I did sign the 'waivers' at the old practice I didn't know at the time what would happen if I didn't. I currently have in my possession our medical records. The 'waivers' are in there. Can I just pull them out now? Is that 'tampering' or something?

Those are YOUR records, but I do understand the concern. Do what you want.

"It is against my sincerely held religious beliefs to vaccinate"

repeat as needed.

Say no more and no less.

He has no right to question your religious beliefs and if they kick you out it could be considered religious descimination.

That worked well, thank you! When the dr first came into the room, he said in a hushed voice, 'we believe strongly in vaccinations at this practice.' I simply said "I am religiously opposed to vaccines." He seemed concerned that the other drs at the practice would have a fit, and a little nervous about what would happen when they found out... but in the end he said okay and did not directly threaten to kick us out of the practice, whew. The rest of the visit, after I signed the vax form that I brought in, went fine.

I used the no-vax form from Inside Vaccines. It seems dr-friendly, and not too abrasive to the drs, but it also removes that line ~'I'm knowingly endangering my baby.' Goodness. And it says, there are risks of not vaxing and there are risks of vaxing.

Thanks,
Aven

It is not over. You will hear from the other doctors within a year. Look for a good GP as a backup.

Yep, I'm sort of expecting that At least today is over.
