Uniforms in a Montessori program - Page 2

My DD goes to a Private school w/ Montessori (P-4th) & Traditional (P-8th). They do not require uniforms for Montessori until 1st grade (because of the mixed ages)...while Traditional starts uniforms at K. I look forward to uniforms because as of now my DD is very picky about what she wears & it makes getting ready in the morning a battle at times.

This is an older thread, but I'm reviving it; I was searching "uniforms" to see your opinions on how "Montessori" it is... or isn't...

FWIW, my son's school requires uniforms; it's a private school, K-5, and soon adding grades; they offer scholarships and the uniforms are a way of keeping the older kids from feeling self-conscious if they don't have as nice clothes as their peers... and the more privileged kids aren't so focused on fashion. There is some variability on the common theme though (I see little girls wearing pink tights, etc.). Personally I love the uniforms, they look adorable.

There is a MOntesorri charter school in my neighborhood and if ds gets pick from the lottery for 3 year olds (in two years, he's only 15 months now) I would totally send him there. They wear uniforms because all schools in the Philly school district have uniforms, although they are unique to each school. They start at 3 and go to 8th grade and they wear uniforms the whole time. I am not a uniform fan, but as the only way for ds to get to go to a school and not wear a uniform is for me to send him to a private school....i see uniforms in our future.

I work at a Catholic Montessori school, and all the children wear uniforms (K-8). They really don't even seem to notice, they are so focused on their work and school activities. Lots of kids wear their uniforms even on out of uniform days. I really like that it levels everyone out, there is no fashion snobbery, and the kids are comfy.
