Spotting

Anyone else been spotting? I had some pink spotting at 14DPO, in the morning - I think that's too late for implantation bleeding so I'm guessing it happened because DH and I had Done The Deed an hour earlier. Then that evening, I had more brown spotting and a red pea-sized blood clot.: Then the next morning, I tested and got a positive.

Since then (it started on Saturday), I have had a little bit of brown spotting every day. No red though. I sure hope the little embryo is hanging in there.

No spotting here but I can only imagine the thoughts that go through your head! I pulled this off a website, if it helps?

Bleeding in early pregnancy is always worrying, but it's also surprisingly common. There can be several possible reasons.

In the very early stages of pregnancy, as the fertilized egg implants there can be a day or two of light bleeding. Later, as the placenta embeds in the uterine lining, it causes slight bleeding. Sometimes a woman will experience 'breakthrough' bleeding.

Pregnancy hormones cover up a woman's usual hormonal cycle, but variations in those normal cycles still go on. Some women notice bleeding at around the time they would usually have had a period as a result of this 'background' variation in hormonal levels. And occasionally women will experience a cervical erosion (a softening of the cervix), which can cause bleeding in early pregnancy.

Bleeding can also be associated with a vaginal or cervical infection or a polyp (a benign growth) and can also occur after intercourse. Sometimes it's not possible to decide what has actually caused minor bleeding.

It's worth talking to your midwife or doctor about any bleeding in pregnancy. Often light spotting is not considered a major problem. But spotting or fresh bleeding, especially if it's accompanied by abdominal pain or cramping, needs immediate attention, as it may be the sign of a miscarriage, an ectopic pregnancy (where the embryo implants in the Fallopian tube rather than the womb) or, in later pregnancy, a problem with the placenta.

Having had some bleeding in early pregnancy, it's natural to feel concerned. Call your doctor or midwife. They will be able to check things out for you now and throughout the pregnancy.

I know it's impossible, but try not to worry. It's not all that uncommon to have spotting. My first pregnancy I had light, very very light brown spotting for the first few weeks. It was so scary, but all turned out just fine!

I have heard that sometimes the implantation bleeding is kept 'up' inside by the cervical mucous which becomes your mucous plug. Exams, DTD, etc can make that blood come out, and it might be a little older hence it appearing brown. That is my unscientific explanation of what I have heard, as best as I can remember.

Bleeding with no cramping is usually ok, and cramping with bleeding is also ok, it is only when the two are done at the same time it is the sign of a problem, this is my understanding at least!!

Hang in there RomanGoddess (nice username ). And thanks, Chaibaby for the info.

It sounds like like spotting can be pretty normal. Are you having any discomfort?

No discomfort at all. Just spotting. Thanks for your replies. I will go in for the blood test at the end of this week.

I am positive I have heard that brown blood from implantation and can often appear around when AF would be due.

Hang in there!

I'm in the same boat as you! My spotting started on Sunday night (18 dpo) and has continued through today, although it seems to be going away. I'm holding my breath though! My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, so any little spot of color right now freaks me out! I went in for a blood test yesterday and am going back for another tomorrow, so hopefully I'll find out which way this pregnancy is going to go.

How are things on the spotting front?

I'm having some of my own. Very faint brown tinge. Not too concerning yet but I am still having some random cramps.

Went in for my second blood test today, but still haven't heard from my dr. Good news though, I haven't had any spotting since yesterday afternoon/early evening!! I'm hoping it stays that way and that I will soon get a positive phone call from my dr's nurse.

More spotting yesterday evening. This time the blood looked a little newer - burgundy rather than brown. I took another home pregnancy test which was of course positive and the line is much thicker and darker than the first one I took on Sunday. I guess I will go in for the blood test on Monday.

I am also taking progesterone supplements - 200 mg per day. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Still spotting! It's been 10 days now. I went for the blood test today and got a figure that put me well within my time frame (although I understand that the range is quite broad). I'm going for another test on Wednesday to see if the hormones are continuing to increase. I also got my progesterone levels taken, which appear to be normal. The doctor says that spotting is not uncommon and to wait until next week to get an ultrasound and get the cervix checked.

Just a little update here. Yesterday, I didn't just spot - I got a gush of honest to goodness bright red blood. I was sure that I had lost the baby.

This morning I went to the doctor for an ultrasound. The doctor said the sac showed no indication of having been through a miscarriage. We couldn't see anything in the sac but the doctor say this was normal for my stage and that we won't be able to see anything until next week.

Went to the lab to get another blood test and the hormone has more than doubled since Monday so I'm assuming that the peanut (that's what it looks like) is doing okay.

Doctor checked cervix and vagina and nothing was there to cause the bleeding so he says it is definitely coming from the uterus - probably from the development of the placenta.

Talk about stress!

Yikes! That is scary Hopefully that was it and you don't have any more bleeding. Do you have another ultrasound scheduled?

barging in from the Jan. DDC to say I've had spotting/some red blood in the very beginning of both of my PGs, and DD is ahealthy, happy, normal 2 year old, and the baby due in January looks great so far, too.

My MW put me on Prometrium in the beginning of this one, since I was still nursing my toddler, and said "You're just a bleeder. It happens. it's scary, but it doesn't automatically mean something is wrong or you're going to lose the baby."

had my 20 week US about 3 weeks ago, and baby is measuring right on target and looks great.

So hang in there, it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong!

I hope for the best for you!

Wow! How stressful for you! I'm glad you keep on getting good news, and that little peanut keeps on keeping on.:

Hang in there! It sounds like your "peanut" is just digging in extra deep!
