Sodium Lactate - avoid?

I have done some googling on this and it appears to not have the milk proteins in sodium lactate, but I wanted to check with you on MDC to find out for sure as you all tend to be more knowledgeable. So is sodium lactate okay to eat? I'm going down to just about nothing in my diet (I think my EBF DD is reacting to tomatoes as well as dairy, but would rather just work in new foods than play hide and seek trying to figure out what exactly I ate that caused the reaction) and the packaged deli turkey I love has sodium lactate in it.

So is this okay for a known milk allergic/intolerant baby? TIA!

Most sodium lactate is made from corn, as I understand it, but you should call the individual companies for each product and verify how they process theirs.

i don't know specifically about sodium lactate, however, I did want to mention that just because there are no milk *proteins* in something, doesn't mean that there aren't other milk components in it. Proteins aren't the only things to watch for in a food sensitive baby, unfortunately.

: I would say most all processed meats are a no-no on a df diet. Actually, it's a good idea to avoid ALL processed/packaged foods, at least for a while, until you get really comfortable on the df diet (I don't know if you're there yet... so ignore me if you are. )

No, I'm really new to this - I think you are probably right - I'm just trying to find stuff other than chicken and ground beef that I can have for quick snacks and lunches. It's so hard to find time to even go to the bathroom, let alone cook with a new baby!

I did call the company (Oscar Mayer) and ask about it, but they gave me the standard, well, if it doesn't have milk labeled on the package under the ingredients then it should be okay. *rolls eyes* I don't know if I want to chance it so early.

Are we discussing the new "natural" deli meats by Oscar Meyer?
I've fed them to ds1 with no problems, fwiw. I didn't see any of his normal milk reaction symptoms.
I seem to remember reading someplace (their site maybe?) that the sodium lactate they use is not processed from milk.

I think sodium lactate is supposed to be safe? Since almost all of our food is made-at-home, I don't recall whether I'm eating anything with it in it, though.

We do buy the Hormel "Natural" luncheon meats occasionally. They are more expensive, but at least the ham and the turkey both state on their wrappers that the lactic acid in them is "not from milk." Also, if you can find Coleman hotdogs, those are free of dairy and soy. They're a Colorado company, but I know they distribute even out to places like NY .... I spoke directly with someone at their HQ when I called to ask about it, and they said absolutely no soy or dairy was in them.

Not sure - the ones we love are the Oscar Mayer DeliFresh in the plastic "tub" that is semi-reclosable - is that it? You would make my day if those are ok!

I will have to look for the Coleman hot dogs - those sound good as well!

I guess it shows how often I buy deli meats. I meant the Hormel luncheon meats.

I found Thumann roast beef and turkey to be the only ones that my kids could have: no MSG, no milk, no soy, no corn, etc. And they're really good.

I avoid sodium lactate, potassium lactate, calcium lactate, lactice acid starter (pepperoni), because I'm scared one of them will have some component of milk in them, because my kids are THAT sensitive. Now that you're telling me it could be CORN, I'm glad I'm avoiding them all.

We just discovered the Coleman line! my ds was so excited he could have a hotdog (he doesn't typically eat meat). I too called the company to be sure there was no dairy or soy!
