Since I KNOW that our school doesn't (I'm in upstate NY), and I see so many parents here asking, "But how will my kid go to school without vaccines?", I'm wondering how many public schools actually tell you that claiming exemption from vaccines is an option.

Please don't vote if you're in WV or MS, where only medical exemption is allowed.

Well I said yes, but really it is public health that mentions it. Public health goes over the vaccination records of the kids starting school in September and sends parents a note saying your child is missing x vaccine and to update the records or get the vaccine or file an exemption.

having to start youngest dd in our local public preschool (about 1 1/2 days) this year, and, no--no mention. (we are in VT).

I went online to find out 'how' and 'if,' and asked some folks here on mdc.
I printed out the state form, but the only thing the school told me was:

"we need a COMPLETE RECORD of immunizations"---with similar emphasis!

I voted "yes". The exemptions are listed right on the vaccine card. You simply check which one you want and sign. No letters, no questions, its simple.
However, that doesnt mean that I dont know tons of people who still argue with me that its not allowed. Parents seem to completely miss the boxed section right above where they sign the card.

I voted yes. They give you a vax record to fill out when you register and it has something on the back you can check and sign if you have an exemption.

Exactly what Elisent said.

I voted "YES". And it's not just on the vaccine card we were given. In a typed letter from the school district it says "Students may be exempt from the requirements due to medical reasons or conscientiously held beliefs."

I was asked for a list of vaccines that my kids have when they started school, but I've never been asked about it since. I don't think they even looked at it. If they did, they would have known that it wasn't complete. My oldest is in 4th grade and middle daughter is in preschool.
