Des moines midwife group

Des Moines Iowa MOMs:
I am wondering who has birthed with or heard about the midwife group here in Des Moines. I will be having a natural, unmedicated hopsital birth also with a doula. Would have liked to have a water birth but am not sure if the midwife group does this? Does anyone know how supportive this group is to non medicated, non intervention births? And if they do water births? Please post positive comments about this group...not negative ones because honstely they are now our only option for a midwife hospital birth. It saddens me that a more medical type group is my only option. I hate having to go to a group! We had a midwife hopsital non medicated delievery in the QCA and it was wonderful! DH will not do homebirth, and I'm okay with that...and the lovely hospital midwfe we planned on using is most likely not available.

try post in the iowa section of finding your tribe for more hits. i didn't birth with them but i know people who have. they don't do water birth. your only chance for a hospital water birth is dana erickson. i think they support natural birth but they work with back up docs pretty closely so that limits them some. your doula should be able to help avoid issues by helping you labor at home to avoid being in the hospital too long. there are 2 homebirth midwives in town you could meet with to help you husband be more comfortable if you are wanting a homebirth.

I'm currently seeing the Methodist Midwives. You can labor in the tub but you can't deliver in it. They also have a birthing stool, but I guess it is pretty ancient and not adjustable so it doesn't work for every mama.

I would recommend spending the money to take the Bradley class in town. I can PM you the info if you like. The instructor is really awesome and every class gives hints and tips about delivering in the hospital with midwives. For instance, Methodist only has two birthing balls and only one exercise mat. So if you plan on laboring on your hands and knees or with the ball, that info is really helpful. Plus, the hospital will only bring you those things if you ask for them.

I know the midwives aren't as crunchy as I would like. But at least they are covered by my insurance!!

I definalty agree with the Bradley class by Amy Brooks-Murphy. They are fabulous and worth every penny!! Also, about the birth stool, Methodist has one and it's very nice. I used it with my birth with my DD. It was cusioned and adjustable, they should be able to get it with the ball, matt, and squat bar.

PS Sheryl Puderbaugh, the homebirth midwife, also takes insurance!

thanks.

Thank you for responses. We took bradley classes with our first, they helped alot. Insurance is not the issue, we just are not comfortable with a home birth at this time. I will be sure to ask for all those items at Methodist to help with labor. I feel more comfortable about going with the midwife group. So that's what we'll stick with...phewww decision made! Thanks again!
