Friend needs desperate help... (also posted in health and healing)

A friend of mine has a 4 month old and has been successfully BFing him since birth. She was convinced she did not have a "good" milk supply so her dr. put her on reglan without question. Of course the reglan made her feel like crap- she was getting deperessed and tired all the time. She called the doctor one morning and just said she couldn't stand waking up, she felt horrible...etc. Doctor took her off all meds (reglan and the minipill) and told her to come in for blood work. They tested her blood but the vile was left out all night. when the lab techs came in in the morning her blood had formed a yellow hue to it so they decided to test her triglicerides and Cholesterol. Her Trigl. were 820, her HDL was 20 and her LDL was 260....all horrible numbers. Her GP gave her a prescription for Tricore (145mg) and told her to wean immediately. She did not take the medication for 3 weeks while debating on whether to wean or not but she has finally given in bc her doctor has put the fear of god into her. She still wants to nurse....

From what I have read- Tricore is 99% proteine based- so 99% of the medication stays in the mother's blood. The medication is an L3- but I think only because there have been no studies on it.

Does ANYONE have any experience with medication - extremely high triglicerides, and or cholesterol? Any natural remedies that can help???
Would the numbers be high because the blood was tested again after it sat out all night???

Thank ya'll so much!!

This does not directly pertain to your OP but maybe it can help a bit. My husband just had all his cholesterol panel and all the numbers were funky too. I am not a medical professional- but maybe this can help. Our dr. is our family ped. he is supportive of all our choices so far in medical treatment and knows we try our most natural options before prescriptions. My husband was overweight- 228. He suggested a very low carb diet, oatmeal in the morning to replace his regular bagel/ cream cheese meal, a handful of raw almonds a day and adding fish oil to his daily multivitamin regiment. These are all to balance his cholesterol. Now, oatmeal is a galactagogue. This could increase your friend's milk supply.

Reglan sucks. I took it 9 years ago and remember the depression. Coming off the minipill and detoxing from reglan could take a little while. Hormonal fluctuations of suddenly weaning at 4 months could jolt her too. Her initial concern of not having enough milk has spiraled into much more. About 4 months is when milk supply tends to balance and many moms feel like they are losing they're losing the milk supply when actually, the body had become efficient at milk making. Then that growth spurt comes, baby's development is making all sorts of milestones, and mom may think that the milk is not enough. I think if she took all these things into consideration, find a special place for her and baby to just nurse and trust that she and her baby can work it out, she can manifest the milk.

Is it possible the lab messed up the results? I mean, they did accidentally leave the 1st sample out overnight. Ive had lab mess ups here in this family.

Can she and her dr. come up with an agreement to postpone weaning and med starting until she tries other methods? He may go for it if she has a plan and explains to him that she doesnt want to risk her baby's health at this time. Her body is only 4 months post pregnancy. I would consider that her body is naturally getting back to normal at this time, her cholesterol may have soared during pregnancy and needs the time to balance?
