Won't nurse only biting :(

Okay ladies I need your help dd just bit me again and she won't nurse. She is only 7 months old. She nurses at night time fine but recently during the day she doesn't want to nurse I can't see why as she always nurses during the day. Nothing has changed in our routine. She cries like she is hungry but when I go to feed her she just goes to bite me.

Sounds like a nursing strike of sorts. When she is really tired or half asleep she is nursing, but not while awake? Maybe try pumping/expressing to keep your supply up while she works through this. Try to getting her to nurse while she is half asleep - or even asleep - such as during nap time. Keep offering, but end the session if she keeps trying to bite you. Try again a little bit later.

If you can express the milk, maybe offer it to her in a cup after she refuses to nurse?

Is she teething? Might it help if you give her some thing to chew on before you nurse her? Or hand her some thing she can chew on after she bites and let her gnaw on that for a bit before letting her nurse again.

I was thinking teething as well. Mine doesn't bite my nipple, but she will pull off the breast while nursing and grab my hand and stuff it into her mouth and start biting really hard. I think it's because she's teething. I'm just glad she's not biting my nipple.

I ended up getting her an amber teething necklace and I let her chew chew CHEW on something before offering her the nipple.

Wow, it is like your post was about my day today with my 7 month old ds. Lately he wants to nurse all night long but will not nurse during the day and just bites me! I'm having to pump to relieve the pressure. I'm hoping that it is just the 7-month blues and will pass. I'm getting pretty sleep deprived from the nightime nursing. We co-sleep, so it really goes on all night. Hang in there!
