Apple Picking Field Trip September 16, Smithfield, RI

Hi All,
I am organizing an apple farm field trip for Tuesday, September 16th, at Jaswell's Farm in Smithfield, RI. There will be a tour, apple cider demonstration/tasting, question-and-answer session, and apple picking. The cost is $5.50 per child, with $2.50 due ASAP as a deposit. The parents may not participate in the apple picking because of the way the special tour orchard is set up (low-lying branches) and for supervision reasons; however, families are warmly invited to return and pick together in the regular orchard. I have also posted this information on the SOS (homeschool) Yahoo group site. If you are interested, please respond to this thread! Thanks!:

what is the appropriate age-level for the outing? I have an almost-2-year-old, and I don't know if he would be cool to go off without me!

Sorry, I don't think I clarified well enough...
Parents are welcome to accompany their children 100% of the time during the tour and apple picking. What they are not allowed to do is have their own bag and actually pick their own apples. I think there have been some issues in the past with chaperones (mostly school groups) not keeping a close eye on the kids, and this is why they instituted the "no adult picking" rule--to encourage people to keep a close eye on the kids. In the regular orchard, parents are more than welcome to pick alongside their children, but then there is no cool tour component. As for the age thing, the lower limit suggested to me was 3, but I was told toddlers are also welcome to pick if they are interested, so long as they pay the $5.50. They simply can't afford to allow younger siblings to participate but not pay, and I understand that completely. I try very hard to organize field trips for SOS that are all-age appropriate, so we will likely have children from preschool up to at least 6th grade, if not older. They are more than willing to answer detailed questions about their farming practices, so it is quite appropriate for older kids!

Jojo, how many/old are your kids?

Hi Everyone,
I am now collecting money for the field trip. You can either pay the deposit of $2.50 per child or the entire amount of $5.50 per child. I would need at least the deposit by Friday. Please e-mail me at: forcefullilmuse@aol.com for details! Thanks!
P.S. This is still open to anyone wishing to participate. Don't be shy...come on down and pick some apples!

Hi Everyone,
So far we've had 13 kids confirm/pay for the apple picking tour tomorrow at 10:30 in Smithfield. I am hoping we will have 7 more people show up, because I think there is a chance they could turn us away if we don't have the 20 children required. :/ I will call today and find out what the remedy might be if we don't meet the minimum. Please, if you are interested, even if you haven't paid yet...come! Bring friends! If you can't afford it right now and need to work something out financially, please do not hesitate to contact me. We've all been there and know how it is when money is tight! We will meet at 10:00 at Jaswell's Farm in Smithfield. From 295, take exit 7B and make a right at the Apple Valley Mall (I believe it is Cedar Swamp Road--there is a McDonald's on the corner). Then the road dead ends at a school ball field; make another right. There will be a farm stand on your right and you'll make a left there, traveling up Swan Road. The farm is on the left--the parking lot is just before the pumpkin patch. Hope to see you there!
