Having a hard time finding some, our hospital cut the classes they offer due to budget constraints.

Isis Maternity offers them. I didn't go there as I delivered at BMC - they offer classes if you're delivering there and you can enroll in their doula program, BirthSisters.

A message for anyone who delivers at BMC: you don't have to be considered at risk to get a BirthSister. To this day I tell everyone that if it wasn't for Nadine, I would still be lying on that examining table with monitors She took it upon herself to take them off and allow me to get up and start walking again

BACE (Boston Association for Childbirth Education) has a list of Childbirth Educators on their website, as does the Lamaze website (and their book, Giving Birth With Confidence and weekly pregnancy e-newsletter - Building Confidence Week by Week are both excellent resources too).

If you're looking for someone who does Bradley or Hypnobirthing, their sites list teacher info in the area:
http://www.bradleybirth.com
http://www.hypnobirthing.com/massachusetts.htm

If you want to do independent study at home, I've heard very positive feedback about The Pink Kit and the Birth of Your Life Course looks great too.

Newton Wellesley Hospital offers classes, and I don't recall being asked if I was planning to deliver there. They even offer hypnobirthing! Mothers and Company is also terrific, but a bit further out from the city.

It looks like from the BACE website that a couple of the founding mamas of Mothers & Co. actually teach at Newton-Wellesley too - Chere Jalali, CCE & Jeanette Mesite Frem, MHS, CCE, CD(ALACE), CBC.

Well, the hospital not offering birthing classes might be a blessing in disguise! Most hospital births can be like reading WTEWYE...teaching you how to behave for the doctor, instead of being really informative of options. Independant classes tend to be much more informative of options.

On the flip side, isn't it sad that one of the most important days of your life, the birth of your child, like getting married, they no longer support preparation of?!

Best of luck finding a good class and with your birth, there are many great options.

Another vote for Isis Maternity in Brookline. We took a natural childbirth class there with a fantastic doula (named Randi... something). She was awesome, and was friends with my midwife, too. I really credit that class for giving me the confidence to go ahead with an unmedicated birth.
