Howdy, I live in Cartersville (30 min north of Kennesaw) and need recommendations for a non vax, intact, homebirth friendly pediatrician. Or at least one who wont give me grief about my choices everytime I go in.

thanks!!

It's not that there aren't mamas out there, it's that there seem to be few who fit the bill - and AFAIK, there are none in the Kennesaw/Cartersville area. I'm currently looking for (yet another) ped and cast my net pretty wide (I'm in Marietta/East Cobb) and have very few names: http://mothering.com/discussions/sho...d.php?t=955294

If you find someone, post and let us all know!

Dr. Heaven in Woodstock has always been great. She's on maternity leave herself, now. I'm not sure about her partners, but I'm told Dr. Owen is the most supportive of breastfeeding. Since I haven't seen her yet, I cannot confirm.`

Kennesaw Pediatrics

I'm in Cartersville as well, still looking for a pediatrician I feel good about....... I'm not sure if Kennesaw Pediatrics will fit the bill or not as I have yet to inquire with my own similar questions. However, they have been recommended to me by another breastfeeding mother who is delaying vaccines (using Dr. Bob Sears' schedule). Check them out at www.kennesawpediatrics.com

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hey, just needed to tell you about this practice. I went to Dr. Long from Kennesaw Pediatrics for our first couple of well visits. They were OKAY. They did make us sign a waiver that we weren't vaxing. Also...this is what make us stop going to them.....they charged out insurance for vaccines they we never even got. Hello, insurance fraud. They applogized over and over again, said it would never happen again, but we still thought it was sketchy. Anyways, we never went back. Dr. Long is okay with not vaxing but will suggest that you do some and will tell you which ones he thinks are important. Suprisingly, it's not that many. He did jump when we said please don't retract our son, but I don't think he was going to anyways.

We are currently using Dr. Long for my younger 2 children. My older 2 are going to move to Kennesaw Family with DH and I. They have a new DO that just signed on there. I've only seen her once but she is working on me with some issues so I'll get a chance to feel her out.

Anyway, back to DR. Long. He's Ok. His office is HUGE now and there are several doctors. They are all nice, but Dr. Thrower and I had serious words about her attempting to retract my son when he was a day old. She will not see him again, but she did see DD3 for Food Allergies and actually knew what she was talking about (surprisingly)

Dr. Long is very good about not vaxing/selective vaxing. The only one he was really concerned with was HIB and he did seem offended that I brushed it off, but I politely thanked him for his opinion and didn't get it anyway (DS was already 1)

Another thing, they are HUGE on well baby visits and don't like it at all if you miss one. Belive me, I've been there on that one and got my butt chewed. The ONLY reason that I'm sticking it out is because he carries the M M and R seperately. He keeps them in stock and he's the only one in the area that I know of. I will stick with him until my younger two get those vaxes sometime after age 3.

Another one to check out is Dr. Young in Cartersville. He was MY ped when I was kid. He also sees my 12 y/o sister. My mom is pro vax, but she said that Dr. Young discussed the pros and cons of vaxing (Chicken pox and Menengitis) and told her it was their decision. I think he'd be ok with not/delayed vaxing.

note: Our insurance has not been billed for any vaxes.

My kids see Dr. Robert Dixon at KenMar Peds. Not that I would ever suggest you see anyone else in that practice, but he is truly wonderful with us and has been for several years. I haven't ever had to sign anything, he's always been cool about us bringing in our homebirthed babies and he hasn't said anything about ds's being intact. He is a wealth of info on diseases and vax's and discusses in a very respectful manner. I have never felt like he was trying to talk us into anything. I have also referred several doula clients to his practice and they have had very similar experiences. As another plus, he is very pro-bf'ing!
