Seamus Ciaran was born 8-25-08 at 2:45 pm at home. 8 lbs 14oz and 21 inches long.
Our birth was great! I awoke to active labor around 4-4:30 am on Monday morning. I called Evelyn Muhlhan, our midwife, at 5:30 and she arrived to our home at 6:45. DS hung around for a bit, but then was starting to get upset as my (BACK) labor intensified. So, Sean walked him over to our friend's home then Grandpa picked DS up a little later. I labored in the birthing pool which helped so much, but it was still a very difficult labor in comparison to Liam's. Our acupuncturist visited around 11 or so to help with the back labor pains. I completed dilation around 12:30 and my water broke shortly after. I didn't feel the urge to push until around 1 or so and my hips/back hurt so bad. My chiropractor called and said he'd be down around 2. He arrived, did an adjustment, and within about a half an hour I pushed Seamus out on the birthing stool. His cord was wrapped around his neck rather tightly, so he did suffer some facial bruising, but was other wise extremely happy and healthy. The midwife and assistant did an amazing job in coaching me through the intense back labor and pushing phase. DH and my close friend also were present to help provide massage and counter pressure -they were also wonderfully amazing. I didn't have any tearing or any postpartum complications. I felt great after the initial birth shakes were over with.
Today, I'm doing great too. The after pains are more intense the second time around, but are totally manageable. Nursing is going great. My milk is already starting to come in. I do have a milk blister on each side, but that's pretty common and we're taking care of it. Seamus is doing very well. Very happy and nursing a bunch.
I cannot say how awesome it was do birth at home with such a great team and to curl up in our bed after all that hard work. I'm loving this!
