that's funny! i'm glad you got your appointment, though.

Hahaha!! Real life example! lol.

I just made an appt at the birth center for Oct 16, and I will be 10w3d then. Would be nice to get in sooner, but they said it was first available and they generally see people at 10-12 weeks. It seems so far away being 5w3d now!

I'm not really in a hurry, I will probably meet with a midwife closer to the end of the first trimester. I am planning to speak to a couple of different mw and see who I jive best with, I've spoke with one over email but didn't really get a feel for her. I will probably have my first "real" appointment closer to 10-12 weeks. With DS I met with my mw at 7 weeks and that was pretty much right after I found out I was pregnant.

My appointment is at 6w2d, but I don't think much will happen at that appointment. At 8 wks I have tours of the two facilities I've narrowed it down for to go to for care (my current doctor helped us with getting pregnant, but I don't want to stay there throughout my pregnanct), so after that I'll have a better idea.

I called the OB/GYN who I really like as a gyno.. figured I'd see what they're like with pregnant ladies. I'm planning a homebirth, but they're illegal here, so I'd like to have backup care with a midwife or doctor. I'm already not happy with this office. They insisted on scheduling my first ultrasound.. I don't know that I want one this early! Then I found out the ultrasound is *before* we even meet with a doctor. Are you kidding me? Sigh.. I guess I'm going to be searching for a backup midwife earlier than I'd planned.

That's frustrating.

Mama, I just wanted to let you know that homebirth itself is not illegal. You have every right to have your baby where ever you please if you choose too. More than likely midwife attended homebirths would be considered illegal in your area and I think that is what you are getting at. That does mean that if you chose to have your baby at home you would do it unassisted. In any case I hat it when women's options are limited. So sorry mama.

Yeah, from what I know it's not the HB itself but in order for a midwife to legally assist it they would need to have an OB backup and that makes their ins. too high, so the closest one is 2+ hrs away. There are 2 underground HB midwives I know of that I'm going to call, but I still would like to have some prenatal care covered by insurance and it's frustrating to have them so intervention-minded already.

I haven't even called my mw's yet lol! I found out early 12 dpo and well it's been over a week. I'm feeling in no rush for some reason. They don't see you till 7-8 weeks anyway. I take it back emailed with one of my MW and she said it 8-10w for first appt. So I really have some time!

I'll probably call this week or early next week.

Gotcha! Thanks for explaining. Hope the undergrounds work out for you.

Since DH and I disagree about provider I have not contacted my MW that I want to use yet (you can see my post about it in the VBACers thread). With DS2, I did not go in until 12 wks but that was bc I was trying to find a practice to take a VBAC as I am in a small town area and only certain hospitals allow it and that is if they are agreeable to letting you have a TOL.

Yeah, same here in Hamilton. I called at 8 or 9 weeks with my first, and I was on a waiting list for a couple months.

I know here anyways, they do prioritize the clients- returning clients and people who wish to home birth get a higher priority than other clients in terms of fitting them in.

Only 50-60 women graduate form midwifery total in ONtario every year.

I don't even know who I'm going with, yet! heh Will most likely go with the same place I went last time b/c I loved my m/w, BUT it's a practice and you don't get to pick who delivers your baby. I didn't jive with the other m/w, but she's gone now and there are two new ones in their place. I dunno...

The other that I am considering only does home births and I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that, either since I don't know if I'll risk out of that.

Regardless, I don't plan to go for a while. I was feeling quilty about that, but see others aren't either so I don't feel so bad!
