Any Coffee Drinkers?

I started giving up my daily espresso/latte in June and tried replacing it with lighter brews and more milk, and sometimes tea. Since finding out I'm pregnant I have been endulging a little bit. I know there is an acceptable limit of caffeine per day but I would like to not be dependant on coffee. I'm just not a tea drinker. I try but its not enjoyable.

Anyway I didn't have my coffee this morning and my head feels fuzzy and I feel cross-eyed. Anyone else in the same predicament? Maybe I will get some organic chocolate powder and make myself a hot chocolate instead or there is always teechino.

Not the same thing, but I shamefully admit my addiction to sodas! I am trying to drink Caffeine Free but ugh it just isn't the same, I would do anything for a Coke at this point. The things we do for love!

I`m sitting here drinking my cup of tea wishing it were coffee! I cut back my caffeine a couple of weeks ago and I just found out today that I am pregnant so I haven`t had any coffee today and I have a little bit of a headache.

Do you know what the acceptable limit is? Maybe I`ll buy some decaf.

Hmm. You know that espresso has less caffeine in it than regular filter coffee, right? One expresso per day will absolutely not hurt the baby.

I did drink espresso (SB 1shot latte) almost every day with my first pregnancy. Ob said it was fine. So then with my second pregnancy earlier this year I thought the same thing would apply. When I went in for my first OB visit he tells me that a new study came out in Feb. that suggests no coffee, and that is what he was recommending . That pregnancy ended in m/c at 6 wks. I have no idea why, it probably was chromosomal defects because of my age. All sorts of thoughts went through my head, I didn't know what to think...

However, with this new pregnancy I decided to not do any coffee/espresso drinks at all - I did have an organic dark chocolate/peppermint candy bar though. I know I'm already at a higher risk because of my age so all I can do is try and control the risks that are in my control...like my diet.

Here's a link to a review of the study my OB commented on...

Just got back from the store with some decaf I managed to kick my soda habit a week before conception, but coffee is a bit more difficult. I'm attempting to avoid caffeine all together this time.

No Coffee but I still drink pop... I try to cut back when I am pregnant though.

I had completely quit caffeine (Pepsi) for months... Then my business partner died, leaving me to do his job and mine. This requires more late nights and alot of driving. So, I am back on the Pepsi! I can't imagine doing a 5 hour drive with stops every 20 minutes to pee!!

So, I am trying to cut back wherever I can, mostly when I'm home during the week.

I have never liked tea, always tasted like grass to me...

Wow, thanks for the link to that study!! I didn't have this problem in my last pregnancy since I didn't drink coffee at all. I was thinking that I was told by a nurse friend that it was ok for 300mg a day. If I remember correctly she was a soda drinker and ended up miscarrying a twin. I wonder........

Anyway seems like decaf and hot chocolate have very little caffeine so it would be an acceptable hot morning drink! Now I just need to find a healthy decaf (thats not chemically processed).

Oh and I didn't know that espresso had less caffeine than regular. Hmmmm!

Oh boy, if you do find a non-chemically processed decaf pretty please : post here. I'm looking for the same thing...

Anyone else know of anything???

I'm so sick of drinking just water for the past 2months

I was drinking 2 cups a day till this week. Now I am trying to cut down to 1. I miss that second cup though. I found that my metabolism has changed and so I am jittery much much longer with the 2 cups.

You know that study only did drinks. There can be as much as 10mg of caffeine in an oz of dark chocolate (the darker the chocolate the more caffeine). Which is more than in hot chocolate which was included in the study. All those would have to be accounted for as well.

I am a decaf drinker myself and wanted to share some brands:

Allegro
Illy Decaf (Only if bought at Whole Foods Market---they use chemicals in the ones they send to other stores)
Coal Creek Coffee
Thanksgiving Coffee

I am sure there are others out there, look for "water processed" or "swiss water processed" coffees.

I am interested in the source of this information (I really am, I am not being sarcastic! I always love to learn more info about coffee). I have worked with coffee for many years and thought that caffeine varied from bean to bean, crop to crop, etc.

Take care!

I switched to swiss water decafs the minute that + sign showed up on my stick. Last week it was Kicking Horse brand, this week we have some from a local roaster.

I still occasioanlly have a Coke though, maybe once or twice a week.

I am a Starbucks chai latte ADDICT (hence chaibaby is my name) and besides it being ridiculously expensive to buy (a grande is $4.64) but I get concerned with the caffeine. So, I've decided to switch over to hot chocolate a bit in the mean time with a "Starbucks" treat every once in a while. It's so bad that when we get off the exit in my hometown where Starbucks is, my 2 year old daughter yells "Yea! Tar-bucks!". LOL. And then she sees my Starbucks card in my wallet and she says "Mama? Mama and me go Tarbucks?"

I think it's funny but my poor husband can't understand it at all!

Oooh, chai. I forgot about Tarbucks () chai! We don't have Starbucks here in my area (and thats SUCH a good thing!) I do love their chai but probably because it is sugary syrupy good. I've tried to make my own and it doesn't compare.

I know! I actually asked at our fav Tarbucks if the take home mix was the same as what they used in-store and they let me know it wasn't. I tried everything to make it taste the same without any luck. Bummer, eh?

I'm in the April DDC but this subject is very close to my heart as I was a 500+
mg per day Caffeine drinker for about 12 years until this June. I quit cold turkey (which I DONT suggest) and had brain fog for 6 WEEKS! I started to feel great...well, until the pregnancy symptoms kicked in. Coffee is truly the only thing I miss...I won't let myself drink any b/c I'm sort of an all or nothing person and I know that drinking one small cup won't do it for me. Just wait till morning sickness kicks in...at least for me most days even coffee doesn't seem appealing which is insane!

Hmmm, I just remembered that my friend worked at the Starbucks in Barnes and Noble. Maybe she can let me in on the secret! I'll have to message her. (Do they make a decaf mix?)

Last pregnancy I stopped drinking coffee altogether during the first trimester because it gave me such terrible heartburn and indigestion. This time around, it doesn't have that effect but given the recent study, I guess I will have to forego my usual morning cappuccino for a while.
