I am sure there are others out there, look for "water processed" or "swiss water processed" coffees.
Thanks for this!!!

oh goodness, this is why I love my patients. One mom just brought me in a chai latte from Starbucks. Actually, it's a grande non-fat, no-water, no-foam, 6 pump chai latte.

Seriously, I have to give this up.

But then again, it would be rude not to drink it because she went out of her way to bring it in...right?

I do love coffee and Coke, but have switched to decaf and caffeine-free soda once the + sign came. I have heard that it is still ok to have an 8 oz coffee once a day, but my hubby is one of those guys that would probably knock it out of my hands if he knew it was regular!! He is very protective of this little one already!

I just looked up the nutritional info for a grande chai latte......

Calories 240
Fat Calories 35
Total Fat (g) 4
Saturated Fat (g) 2.5
Trans Fat (g) 0
Cholesterol (mg) 15
Sodium (mg) 95
Total Carbohydrates (g) 44
Fiber (g) 0
Sugars (g) 41
Protein (g) 7
Vitamin A 8%
Vitamin C 0%
Calcium 25%
Iron 2%
Caffeine (mg) 100

Now you could always justify it by saying you're getting protein and calcium. BUT the 41 grams of sugar~ ouch! Enjoy your last chai, andrea!!

Oh and I also compared starbucks brewed coffee to espresso and the brewed has 150g of caffeine and the espresso has 75. Interesting!

Wow, how depressing. I don't think I've looked at that in a few months. Last time I looked at it, I was training for a marathon so I think I was justifying that calorie and carb count, knowing I'd work it off later that day....

Awwwww, I didn't mean to depress you Andrea!

I did one daily cup of tea or coffee throughout my last pregnancy. At this point, I do drink one cup of coffee, but I blend my beans to include 1/3 caffeinated and 2/3 decaf coffee beans, so the amount of caffeine I'm drinking in my cup per day is negligible. Nonetheless, I am unwilling to give it up!

I've been able to mostly forgo coffee and even mostly switch to herbal teas and such... I'll still let myself have a cup here or there, since what I've read is that one or two cups won't hurt, and I don't drink soda, and only have chocolate occasionally, so I'm not too worried.

The thing I'm very happy about is that I've managed to completely kick my redbull habit! (it was sugar-free, but still...)

As soon as my egg was fertilized I had a strong aversion to coffee. I got dizzy and my body felt overstimulated. Here is a good list of pros and cons of drinking coffee:

As for soda...google 'soda phosphoric acid' . Caffeine is not the worst thing in soda!

Coffee drinker here, switched to Decaf this morning. Trying not to beat myself up for the coffee and soda I've drank the last 2 weeks

BIG time coffee drinker. We make a pot of half caf and drink on it all day at work between two of us.

alas no more....i did make a very small cup of half caf at the store on the way to work tho. but then switched over to water and drank lots and lots all day.

I was drinking coffee all day every day until i found out i was pregnant yesterday. We weren't exactly trying....so i wasn't exactly preparing....

I have been thinking about this issue for as long as I've been TTC (a long time!) I used to be a big coffee drinker but am much more sensitive to it in the last few years. I am down to a cup or a cup and a half anyway now. I did read that study that came out in Feb. For now I will allow myself one 8 oz cup a day. I might cut it out completely from week 6-12 or so when the miscarriage risk is so high. I might let my stomach be my guide too. I want to do what is best for the babe, but I don't want to start start off the bat as an over protective mom just yet either!

With my first pregnancy I limited my caffeine (after I could drink coffee again) to what ammounted to 1/6 of a cup of beans ground. I think that put it under 200mg of caffeine. I am just pregnant now and I am drinking twice that...I am not sure what I will do now that I know I am pregnant. I looked at that study and they didn't provide the data on how many miss carriages there were in each group or what the statistics were. My initial reaction is that the sample size is too small. Besides they are always telling us not to do this and not to do that and then tell us to get an amnio!!! The risk of spotaneous abortion of a healthy fetus is 1 in 300 with an amnio, way way higher than your risk of listeria, toxoplasmosis and all sorts of other things that have us all paniced....

Where's the rest of my coffee???

cheers everyone!

Hey, just lurking...I'm in the Feb DDC. Kicking Horse is my favorite brand!

I stopped drinking coffee temporarily when I was sick between 7-13 wks. Now, I have one coffee every couple days or so. If consumed sparingly I don't believe its going to do any harm to the baby, however, consuming caffeinated or sugary foods can put you at a higher risk of developing those pesky yeast or urinary tract infections...yuck!

Anyway I didn't have my coffee this morning and my head feels fuzzy and I feel cross-eyed. Anyone else in the same predicament? Maybe I will get some organic chocolate powder and make myself a hot chocolate instead or there is always teechino.
I have been a coffee drinker since N was born, but have slowly weaned my system off. I started the caffeine weaning when I wasn't getting/staying pregnant the past few months. Now I am down to a coffee (or pepsi) every few days and even then I don't finish them. But I think as it gets cooler: I may have to move to decaf, I do like the warm up in the morning. But dh is addicted to the caffeine in his coffee, so we will have to make two different pots

Yeah we'll be doing 2 different pots too. Actually since we both just drink one cup in the morning I will be using one of those single serving filter cups and make us separate cups. I still can't get over the taste of decaf though.

I've switched to Black Cat. So good. I get it (both beans and brewed) from the coffeehouse down the street.
