Milk , Eggs , Beef, Pork

Hello all new here

My daughter is 3.5 years old .
Had her tested when she was 2 and She is allergic to milk , eggs , beef , pork ..
I understand the milk and eggs but the beef and pork thing is kind of weird for me ..

She is off the charts for milk, one of the highest the allergist has seen ..
I have already had to use the epi-pen on her once when she decide to sneak a cheerio from her bothers bowl.

Last year the doctor told me that as she gets older the numbers will decrease and she will grow out of it .

Last week we had her tested again and the milk allergy numbers increased , WTF , so much for the deceasing theory .

Still trying to get a grasp on all the names the food industry uses for milk and eggs , they seem to find new ways of hiding it.
I can't believe I have to be concerned with what type of orange juice I buy !!

Anyone else with these types of allergies ??

We have allergies to milk, eggs and wheat/gluten in the household. None are anaphylactic, however.
It sounds, from what you're saying, that all of your baking needs to be vegan. No animal products whatsoever.
I'm assuming you're feeding her large amounts of poultry along with bean and brown rice dishes for protein. Another option for proteins would be quinoa. I believe I read someplace that it has the same nutritional profile as milk. Is she getting fish and seafood yet or are you holding off until she's older?
I haven't found them hiding eggs in anything, but I don't have a list of "hidden egg" so maybe I'm just missing it.
What's the deal with orange juice?
I'm sure that you will find someone else here who has a similar situation. We're a very diverse group.

Yes, it sounds like becoming familiar with vegan cooking would be a good thing for you guys. Besides meat that she can eat, beans, lentils and quinoa are good sources of protein. There are lots of alternative milk options, too, like rice, almond and coconut milks. There are even several substitutes for eggs for use in baking. Ener-g egg replacer is a commercial one, but there are homemade ones (like flaxseed and water) that you can put together at home. Without dairy and some meats, getting enough fat becomes more important, too. I cook for my allergic dd with a lot of oil and add extra oil to her foods after cooking, too.

We have dairy allergies in common with you, but ours are not anaphylactic. Even though many children do outgrow their allergies, not all do. To have the best chance, you need to stay away from the food in all its forms (as you know), but many on this board feel that healing from the inside is essential. That includes taking probiotics, enzymes, cod liver oil and such. If you look at the resources sticky above and scroll through, you'll find several threads with good information.

Good luck and stick around. This board is very supportive

Thank you ,

Yeah we use the ener-g stuff and love it , I pretty much use it for all my baking even when she won't be eating it ..

The Orange Juice , one night my daughter had a slight reaction to the calcium fortified orange juice we gave her ,, well I went online and found that this particular brand used a milk byproduct in their juice ..
(forgot the name of the brand, now we just squeeze our own) ..

My daughter is a picky eater so I am having to find new ways to give her the stuff she needs

OMG!!!!:
Now that just pisses me off. It never occurred to me they would choose to use anything other than plain old calcium...like in a supplement. Better not be minute maid or heads will roll. Darn, I need another emoticon invented.

Here are two good sites for the "other names" for allergens:

We stay away from any of the enriched juices. It's almost always calcium lactate - whether it's grape juice or orange juice. And it's easier to just avoid them than to have to call the companies and ask every time (since they could change their source at any time).
