For anyone close to a Giant Tiger store, they are selling 12 packs of unsweetened kool aid-type drink mix for 50 cents. I think half of the packets are red (cherry, strawberry, punch) and the others are green, orange, and blue. I haven't actually used them to dye anything, so I can't vouch for how well they dye.
