Guillain Barre syndrome (xposted - H&H) - Page 2

I am so sorry for your cousine. I have treated people (younger and older) with GBS as an OT - and I have always seen amazing results over time. Keep your cousins spirits high and his motivation for rehab strong. This is truely a horribly scary thing to happen to your family. I wish your family all the best with the rehab

My mom had it when she was pregnant with my brother. That was a good 12 years before I was born so I don't know too much about her experience. She does have some lasting effects. She has a little bit of trouble with her hands. Not too severe, but struggles with things like buttons and clasps on jewelry, that kind of thing (she's done some professional painting, murals and such, so obviously she still can use her hands quite well!) She also has to wear leg braces. To my mom's credit, she nursed my brother past 2 even though she had a cesarean and was paralyzed when he was born. Can you imagine? I asked her about that one day and she said, "breastfeeding? That was easy! I had to breastfeed, I couldn't hold a bottle!" Love it

Anyway, guillain barre risk is a huge factor in not vaxing dd. That and MS (my dad has that.. yeah something scary on both sides of the family Any time I start to question if we're doing the right thing, I remember that we DEFINITELY don't want to mess with GB or MS!
