Newberg area moms & kids

I decided to start a thread that we can hopefully keep going!

This includes Sherwood, Dundee, McMinnville, and anyone else who wants to come out here :

I'd love to meet more local moms and kids, and hopefully have some fun get togethers in the fall, when the weather starts getting rainy and cold.

Anyone have any ideas for local, fun stuff to do indoors with kids? I don't want to get cabin fever like I did last winter, so I'm trying to plan ahead.

Hi Nicole! This thread is a great idea.

You already know my idea: the library. You can't go wrong with the library!

There's a Safari Sam's here in Sherwood. I have no idea what it is though. Is it like a Gymboree? (Not that I've ever been to that, either! lol) Nevermind, I googled: http://www.jungleoffun.com/index.html Sounds interesting!

Safari Sam's is a ton of fun. It's like a huge McDonalds play structure, only more sanitary. (I'm from Newberg originally)
I'm subbing to this thread, we'll be visiting in a couple weeks and it'd be fun for DD to visit with some other kids while everyone is at work.

I keep meaning to go there, especially on the homeschooling day - I think it's every third Friday, from 12-3PM? There's a discount for HS kids.

I love the library, too! Though, Oliver's been a handful there lately. All he wants to do there is: toss the DVDs & CDs on the floor, go into the back where the Librarians work, or go up the stairs to the second floor. Anything else, in his mind, is totally boring.

Haha, she's still teeny. But she can do funny things. I want to get together soon, too! So Oliver and Bekah can play together. Aww.

Jason's out of town, backpacking with friends until Saturday. So we're trying to keep busy. We went to the zoo today, and tomorrow we're going swimming at a friend's place.

ahhh, bekah's attacking me!! lol

Hi, Jes! Definitely post when you get in town My daughter loves playing with other kids. If it's nice, maybe we could meet at a park or something We live pretty close to Memorial park.

We should do something next week sometime! I'm just busy on Tuesday until noon, and Friday, we're going to Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge to hike. You could meet us there on Friday, or we could meet at a park nearby sometime? Or whatever else

Hi guys, I'm in Newberg too...I have a 7 month old son. Hmmm well I guess I'll keep checking back here. I'm planning on hiking at Oaks Bottom next Friday so perhaps I will see you then (Nicole?)

In the meantime if anyone wants a park date let me know. The weather is just lovely!

Yes, we will be there! I think there are some other Westsiders that are coming. And a friend of mine from LJ, and her daughter are coming, too, I think.

We're always up for a park date

Bumping this up. What's everyone doing this upcoming week? We're going out on Thursday to Forest Park.

Maybe if it's nice, we could go to a park sometime this week in the morning and meet one of you guys there? Roxie? Tracy? Memorial Park is always nice, and it's fun for the smaller ones, too.

Bumping this up again!

How's everyone doing?

Hi all! We're new to Newberg and to the PDX area in general. I'm looking forward to getting to know the area and all of you! We just rented a house right on the main drag downtown, which will be new for me since I'm a country girl and we just moved off our ranch. Wish me luck adapting!

You're right by us then, Tracey! We live just a couple blocks away from the Dairy Queen, on 4th st.

Here's the link to the Newberg homeschooling group if you don't have it already: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NAHEN/

The Newberg library is also a great resource. They have lots of fun stuff for kids there. Story times, and stuff for older kids, too.

Bumping! We're in the house, got internet, and are trying to settle in. Still needing furniture, so I'm scouring craigslist and freecycle, and trying to coordinate it all so we can rent a uhaul and make one good westside sweep to get as much at once as possible, LOL!

We've got my youngest son (Justin 17yo) up here now, football season is over, and that is such a huge blessing. I've already got him running to safeway and fred meyer for me, so I don't have to drag baby out everywhere, LOL! he took a cruise yesterday and found some cool roads - up off of College, called Bald Eagle or Bald Mtn. or something like that.

We're now looking for docs / dentists in Newberg, Mac or PDX. Would love to find an MD family practitioner who isn't a freak about vaxing, homeschooling and who is at least open-minded about homebirth (don't expect him to do it, just not wig out, LOL!). Good dentist would also be handy, as we all have a few things needing done! An OB who is pro-VBAC, and open to the mom making the decisions in her own care would be great for shadow-care if I get pg again (we're hoping to soon!). I just know what I want and need and what I don't want or need, and will ask for advice on things I don't know, but it's hard to find an OB who can handle that, LOL!

I'm so bummed that the farmer's market is closing! I brought my canner up, but I just haven't had time to go down there and get something yummy to put up, and now I'm afraid I'll miss it. :-(

Anyone know of someplace a semi-truck with trailer could park all day and/or night? Our buddy drives truck and has a drop here in Newberg (over by the railroad tracks by the Teriyaki Bento place) and we'd love to have him stay with us when he's in town, but we don't know where he could park the truck. We've only got one tiny parking spot at our place (hubby parks on Hancock or at the bank!) so I'm clueless!

We checked out the library - WOW! Our libraries closed down back at home about 2 years ago, and it's been sad ever since. I'm like a kid in a candy store again, LOL! Once I figure out my plan of action concerning RSV (baby Bekah was a preemie) I might start taking her to the baby story times. I think that would be so cool!

Well, the laundry is calling to me, so I had better run! Looking forward to getting to know you all better!
