Well, when my daughter was 2(last year)she was a broccoli but umm that was all her idea.I guess that's not much help.

She has also been a devil and a butterfly.

Martha Stewart is big into Halloween and usually has some cool ideas.

Last year my dd1 was Harry Potter and Hermione mixed together. She had Harry's glasses and scar and Hermione's hair and clothes.

Dd2 was a pumpkin.

Dd1 wants to be a water princess this year. I have no idea how to do this so that she's happy with it. She wants the dress to look like flowing water. I think that dd2 is going to be a cat as cats are her favorite thing at the moment.

Fairy costumes can be pretty fun to make. My oldest was an autumn fairy for her first halloween. I found a long sleeve onesie in a yellow color and leggings that matched for the under clothes. Then I took autumn colored fabric in a few different colors and painted them with fabric glitter. Then I cut out leaf shapes and attached them to an elastic band which I put over her leggings (sort of like a leaf tutu). I also covered a knit hat in leaves too so that her ears would be warm. For the wings I just made some out of cardboard and painted them. It was pretty easy and it looked really cute.

We also decorate the house in aged cheesecloth which is fun. I have used it to make curtain linings and table cloths. I think last year I used coffee instead of tea and it worked a lot better.

What if you attach wire to the fabric? Then you could bend it to look like it's flowing?

Rere, That's a great idea! Thank you. I took her to the fabric store yesterday to pick out the pattern for the dress so I think that it'll be easy to incorporate the wire into it when I am putting it all together. Now I just have to convince her that water princesses wear shoes. lol. It gets pretty cold here around Halloween so I don't think a barefoot water princess would have too much fun trick-or-treating.

I love making Halloween costumes!

It gets cold here too.Well, actually it could go either way and you can never tell which way it's going to go.That can make it tricky(ooo, no pun intended)to plan a costume.

Hmmm...water princess shoes?Would she be into something like these?

Those are really cute. I bet she would love something like that and they are "princessy" enough that she'll probably be excited to wear shoes.
Dd's really into Halloween this year and she has an exact idea of what she wants which is cute but much harder for me.

I love Halloween:. Does anyone here dress up? I haven't for the last couple of years but I might this year. My friends and I were tossing around the idea of going as the four seasons (as in the actual seasons).

I love Halloween too!

I usually wear a little something.Last year when my daughter decided to be a broccoli she also thought I should be a carrot.I just wore an orange sweatshirt and I made a carrot top out of felt that I attached to a headband.

I love the idea of the four seasons!

This year my daughter wants to be a princess.I feel so uninspired.I did use the opportunity to show her princesses outfits from around the world. And although she really liked all of the beautiful outfits it was the Anglo ones that she wanted to wear for Halloween.Oh well.

Last year my dd was insane for anything Disney Princess She still loves fairytale princesses but she's been really getting into different fantasy inspired stuff which I like much better.
I was totally unispired last year and it was my dd2 1st Halloween. I felt so awful because I completely forgot to put a costume together for her until a week b-4 Halloween. I ended up rushing out to the store and buying a pumpkin one which was really cute but I felt so bad that I didn't make it. I hope she never asks about it.

She wore green long johns(top and bottom) and I made a green fleece hat.I made a bunch of big green pompoms out of yarn and attached them to the hat.I also attached some pompoms to some wrist cuffs. My husband made a laminated produce sign that said broccoli (so it would be clear that she was a broccoli)that we hung on her.

That's awesome. I love that you put a sign on her.
This weekend dh just made a bunch of tombstones out of scrap plywood that we had lying around. He's going to paint them and then we're going to set up a mini cemetary in the front yard! I'm really getting into the decorating possibilities this year.

I love fall and Halloween! I have been busy getting ready for awhile now! I would love to make my boys' costumes, but it's a big deal for my MIL to send them down for them!

Yesterday I finished a lap quilt out of Halloween fabric...it's so cute...it has a simple pattern on the front with an orange and black fabric that is kind of mature, with a black fabric with grey spiderwebs in between...then the back is a black fabric with candy corn all over...so cute. I tied it with orange yarn and used orange silky trip...it looks really nice in our living room and I know my 2 1/2 year old will love it when I let him take it to school for his blanky!

We are having a big Halloween bash this year...something I have always wanted to do and my 6 year old is so excited! We made the invitations last weekend and my dad is even coming from MN. It's more for the kids, but we are going to have a big beanbag tournament for adults! Even my hubby is excited about that!
