boy:girl ratio in kindergarten - Page 2

My dd's class has around 16 students (I think, 4-5 students moved over the summer and we gained 2). Only 3 are boys. This makes it hard for my dd cause she prefers to play with boys, she wishes there were more.

I have a JK boy (so 4.5 years) starting school next week and he is a very quiet, very studious (loves phonics, loves to sit down to read books). He does love cars, and blocks and water play. You won't find him in the doll section - but neither would my girlie-girl be in the doll section - she liked drawing more.

To think about it - it might be a HUGE advantage. Not that I should stereotype, but even kindie girls can be truly nasty, bullies and exclusionary (I was blown away by the mean/pettiness of the girls in my dd's SK class year) - I don't think the boys have the same issue.
I was going to point this out too. My ds (who is going into gr.1 this year) was the quiet, rule-following, observant boy in the class. I'm sure the 4 girls in his class were more rough and tumble than him. There were about 15 boys to those 4 girls. My ds played with 2 of the girls quite frequently although it tended to be neutral games. There were a couple of really rambunctious boys whom my ds did not associate with but overall I think it worked well for everyone, even the girls.

I am a teacher and I have twice as many boys as girls this year in my class. There is nothing to be done due to the fact there is only one class in each grade.

You'll maybe observe that some of the boys prefer playing with the girls......
I know because my ds was/is one of them

In my older DD's first grade class last year there was a very even boy/girl split. Her very best friend was a boy. And a boy over a full year older than her (because he was "red-shirted") to boot. But they share similar interests and are fast friends. She had 2-3 other boys, as well as a couple girls, that she played with all year. I think its wonderful. As some have said, the girls in her grade tend to be a lot more clique-y, so I am actually kind of glad she has friends of both genders.
