Ped dentist issues ?

Has anyone here ever had issues with a pediatric dentist not wanting
to treat your child due to being unvaxed ?

After three tries we found a great ped dentist we like. Both boys
have decay issues so the dentist is an important person for us. Our
DSs are 5 and almost 3. When we first went to this dentist, I filled
out the healthy history form for DS1 to have a cleaning and in the vax
area it just asks if they are up to date and I checked "yes" and signed
the form. At that time, even though we had decided to stop, it was true for him, because we vaxed him up thru age 2 and nothing else had been due yet. Now DS2 is going to have his first cleaning (vs just an exam) and I will have to fill out the health history form. He is completely unvaxed. I would like to just be honest that we do not vax him and have stopped vaxing DS1. I am just wondering how likely it is that the dentist's office will have an
issue with this ? I know I can just check the "yes" box.....but I would prefer to be truthful if it's not going to cause any problems. Do dentists get uptight about vaxes ?

Thanks !

We have never had a form from the dentist have a question about vaccines.

IMO its not of their business.

You would not be lying by checking "yes" they are up-to-date. They ARE up-to-date on your vaccine schedule, which happens to not include any vaccines. There's no reason that a dentist needs to know this information. The dentist may or may not be uptight about it. But it's just not worth any risk, because there's no downside to checking "yes."

Just like for a new doctor's office, you could call pretending to be searching for a new office and ask if they see unvaccinated kids. Then you'll know their stance and you can go from there. Hope it works out!

I wouldn't even bother to bring it up. IMO that just asking for them to say no.

I've had a lot problems with ped dentists being demeaning & patronizing (mostly refusing to allow parents in because parents are apparently the reason kids hate dentists ) but I've never had one even ask about vax status. That seems really weird & none of their business, imo.

TanyaLopez meant that you could call up anonymously (or with a fake name) and ask them over the phone. That's a great suggestion. But make sure the receptionist actually asks the dentist.

But what I meant was it will start them to talking and thinking and making that offices rules about it.

If one just goes and doesn't say a word then it doesn't stir up the hornets nest so to speak.

But it sounds like this office already asks about it on the new patient form. Maybe it was just a standard new patient form and they don't really care about the answers to that part, but maybe they do care. I personally wouldn't have a problem lying about it, but it would be nice (for me) to know if I _had_ to lie or not.

we had consults with 3 different pediatric dentists and they all asked vax status on their intake forms. i answered truthfully that dd was not up to date (what that means, is up for interpretation, i suppose. up to date according to who, exactly? what if you're from another country? you could be utd according to another country's schedule and not even be close to being utd according to the cdc.)

not one dentist even brought it up. i don't think they even looked at it.

i have not been impressed with ped dentists, to be honest. there aren't that many that know much about nutrition and supplementation. i had 3 ped dentists recommend major surgery under general anesthesia, and 2 of the 3 said that i absolutely must wean dd.

thankfully, i found a wonderful dentist that is up on his nutritional knowledge, and is totally supportive of continuing to breastfeed dd (she'll be 3 in november). he is helping us to manage the decay holistically...lo and behold, the decay has arrested!

i would be honest, and take it from there if there is a problem. if questioned, i was prepared to say that we were working very closely with our pediatrician on the matter (which is true) and leave it at that. i can't see a situation where a ped dentist would attempt to trump a pediatrician's recommendation regarding a subject which the dentist has zero expertise.

Ours said that too; we lied and said we night weaned . Dh was on the Drs side at first until he researched the issue.

Our dcn had some serious decay on the upper molars which had to be taken care of, but I'm interested in holistic was to prevent further decay.

I just checked yes on the form; didn't feel like dealing with the fallout if it was an issue.

ozone!!

also, high vitamin cod liver oil and butter oils, and general hygeine stuff like reducing the very commonly carb-heavy toddler diet of crackers, cereals and dried fruit snacks and replacing them with mineral-rich whole foods. dd snacks on seaweed and fresh fruit, and we only do raw dairy (i make my own yogurt with it). also as breastfeeding mamas, we have to get our diet optimized, too...lots of leafy greens, and i take the clo and hvbo too.

the yahoo groups alternativekidsteeth and veryyoungkidsteeth have some awesome info and very informed mamas and dental professionals dealing with decay issues holistically. you might be able to find a referral for a dentist doing ozone in your area.

it can be done!!
