What is this stuff on my armpits??

Okay , this is the craziest thing ever. My dh thinks I am going nuts...anyways, I have been using natural deordorant-usually Tom's of Maine for several months. Well, it stopped working and frustrated I stopped using it and went back to using reguar ole' suave. Well, strangley that isn't working either! I have never had issues in this department before. I noticed the weirdest thing in the shower. I have this waxy film in my armpits that will not wash off!! If I rub on it it will leave a waxy film on my fingers too. I think whatever this stuff is, is the reason none of my deoderants are working. Did the Tom's leave this stuff? How do I get it off of me? I tried scrubbing with hot soap and water, rubbing alcohol & vinegar! What is this?!

I don't know what to tell you about all that...weird. You could try some baking soda. It's abrasive, so it might help scratch it off.

You know, I've heard so many wierd things like that from people using Tom's! For me it wasn't film, but it actually burned my armpits and left them itchy and peeling!

I agree with the PP. Maybe use some BS or ground almonds or something to really try and exfoliate. Also, rubbing alcohol (or is it peroxide?) takes the film from stickers off of my windows, would it do the same for your skin?

Try a sugar and olive oil scrub, and then maybe wear nothing for awhile -(no deoderant)

Thanks, I will give some of those suggestions a shot and let ya know how it goes. I had the peely skin thing too, but now I wonder if it was actually my skin peeling or if it was whatever this film is....I was using the apricot one, don't know if apricots leave waxy residue though...who knows!

That's really weird. I use the TOm's of Maine natural unscented deodorant stick and love it! I've been using it for about 2 yrs and never have a problem. I guess if you try going w/o any deodorant for a few days it should go away, right? If it does, try your usual stuff again and see if it comes back?

If the OP's armpits are really peeling, it may take longer than a few days to clear up. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I thought my peeling was a waxy build-up at first, too. It took a few weeks before I was completely healed!!!

that happened to my husband and he actually had to shave his armpits to get it all off. i don't know if we waited a few weeks for it to disappear though. we thought it was his body detoxing something.

it was weird for a while him having no armpit hair and me having plenty.
