SNS and shallow latch

I supplement at most feedings with SNS. DD latches well and bf, and once I'm tapped out, I insert the SNS tube and top her up. Lately I've noticed that once I insert the tube, she changes her latch to a more shallow, pinchy latch. This is new...I haven't changed the tube-size, so the flow from the SNS wouldn't have suddenly become faster. When I use a tube that does have faster flow (I have seven and they all seem to have different rates, despite being the same diameter!), I pinch it to slow the flow down. The flow from the SNS, however, is definitely faster than when I bf....she swallows less frequently during bf-ing than with the SNS.
Anyways, I'm looking for suggestions on how to encourage her to maintain the (usually) good latch we start out with...any suggestions welome!

have you tried using a lact-aid instead?
we suppliment at the breast too, and sometimes dd2s latch gets really shallow and HURTS. its definitely different from when she is nursing without it.
i just take the tube out, wait for her to pop off (it doesnt take long, she wants that milk!) then i relatch her. sometimes it takes a few tries before she settles in to a comfy latch. and sometimes she just WONT.

I think sometimes they figure out that they can just suck on the straw! At least, mine did. I would de-latch and re-latch but oy, what a pain it was. I gave up on the SNS/LA at around 6 months. (We still nurse, I just stopped supplementing at the breast.) It is brutal. s It is so hard to do it!!!! I hope you figure out something that works for you.

I just removed her until the latch was right, saying "we take the nipple, too..." (Figured some day that would mean something to her ) I never thought about weaning her from SNS to bottle once she was older - I was always too worried she'd get frustrated with my flow and switch completely - but it's awesome to see that's possible from the PP! Wouldn't that be lovely at 4a when I refuse to get up and get the SNS, but I'm obviously out, so she just nurses and nurses and nurses...

ETA: Tho I would think you (OP) are better off keeping up with the supplementer til babe is a bit older, if you possibly can...

You might find it helpful to tape the tubing to the breast, keeping the tip of the tube flush with the nipple. Just don't open the valve to let the SNS run, until you would normally would have inserted the SNS tube in the past. This helps eliminate the straw sucking they try on it.
Could it be that your supply has increased, and baby just doesn't need the volume as quickly from the SNS, as in the past? If so, using a smaller tubing might be the ticket. Sue

Other than this shallow latch issue, supplementing at the breast is going so well that I'll definitely be sticking with it.
Justthinkn: She definitely gets frustrated with my slow-flow, so I've sworn off the bottle for a while yet. With similar regrets at 4am
And thanks for the suggestion about starting out with the sns, but I think I've confused SNS with Lact-aid? I've don't have a valve...the tube is attached to a siphon-like ending that sucks up the milk from the bottle, and then runs directly from the bottle, no control valve. Am I actually using a Lact-aid, or just a ghetto version of the SNS?
As for my volume increasing, I usually wait until I'm close to empty before I insert the SNS...after massaging, compressions etc.
It sounds like babies all around are fairly savvy. I never thought I'd be close to outsmarted by someone still forming essential neural pathways in her immature brain.
