Just signed a lease on a house in Rochester NY

My DH, DS (11 months old) and myself are moving to Rochester from Cambridge, MA on September 15th. Really I should say we're moving back there as both my husband and I originally grew up in the area (me in Brighton, he in Irondequoit>) We have signed a lease on 1/2 of a double in the upper monroe area. We're very excited!

Although I do have knowledge of the area, I am wondering if anyone can point my way to some fun things to do with kids that I may not know about.

Thanks!

I recently moved from Rochester two hours south. I stay in touch a lot. Great homebirthing community up there. Lots of awesome moms- go to a couple homebirth circle meetings (probably first go to La Leche League and find out when homebirth circle is- I know its in the 19th ward at my friend's house but not sure of what date or time since I'm too far now to go). There is also a Holistic Moms group- look it up on the web.

The Strong Museum of Play can be fun (though a bit over-stimulating if you stay too long). There is a cool butterfly conservatory there and sometimes the butterflys will land right on you.

My son like the Brighton library- there is a children's room with toys and other children to play with on a rainy day.

Of course you know Highland Park- a lovely place to go for a stroll or picnic.

Get involved with a CSA next spring- another way to meet cool families and get good local food. There are several and my fave was the one that picked up their shares at the Abundance Coop (I think its on Marshall St.). Lori's Natural Foods in Henrietta on Jefferson Rd. has a lot going on too. Check out their anniversary party Sunday the 28th- lots of free samples and chance to meet some people maybe. =)

Welcome to NY! We spent some time in Rochester after my son was born, he was in the NICU at Strong Memorial. I've heard good things about the Strong Museum of Play. If you are looking for a day to get out and enjoy the good weather before it turns to winter, we are in Ithaca. There are lots of parks and beautiful falls! Take care!
