what names are you coming up with? - Page 4

We have a hard time with boys names and one of the few we both like right now is either Nathaniel Robert or Daniel Robert. My kids really wants us to use Daniel but we have friends with an Emma and a Daniel and we already have an Emma.

For girls we so far have Cora, Eliza, Claire or Ella Ann.

I love the name Linus, too!

We just agreed two weeks ago on a boy and a girl name. Pretty rare b/c we don't agree quickly on much. Phoebe Mitchell (his mother's maiden name) and Thomas Kendrick(my paternal grandfather) . Although DH is not keen on Phoebe (My maternal grandmother's name) and will allegedly call her "Mitch" and I do not care for Thomas, Tommy or Tom. I guess we did not really agree-- as it stands if we have a girl I am calling her Phoebe and he is calling her Mitch and if a boy, I will be calling him Kendrick and DH will be going w a variant of Thomas! LOL! We both are too opinionated!! I expect we will change our minds again...and again.

moonshine, my FIL is named Thomas and goes by Tim. Would that work? Or some play on his initials maybe?

I love the name Oliver - but Oliver Gordon looks (and sounds) just like Olive garden. Are you in the us?

I love your picks for girl names! We're still thinking about Cora or Claire/a, but have nixed Eliza and Ella because we already have an Eli. I like so many El__ names.

We're holding off on any big discussions til we know the gender, and then we'll still probably have 2 or 3 to choose from once the baby is here.

I wanted to name my last girl Cora but she didn't look like a Cora and she became Kara. Claire has been a favorite name of mine since I was little. Ella is both my husband's grandma's name and the shortened version of my warcraft name. Eliza came about because we said if we had twins they would be Emma and Eliza and I still like the name but it's not at the top of my list.

It was so funny, last night I was just drifting off to sleep when dh turned to me and said "I really like Cora, a lot" totally out of the blue! Normally, I have to pry name talk out of him and then he hems and haws, but he must of been thinking on this one. So my guess is we'll be sticking with Cora Beth unless I find something else I love more, or she's a he, or if she doesn't look like a Cora!

We're not in love with anything yet...but the ones that have been thrown around so far are:

-Boys-
Hawk (our current favorite)
Azure (is that girly?)

-Girls-
Sapphire (too porn-ish?)
Juliet (a perennial choice for us)

We have a REALLY hard time with girl names. We had settled on Pia Noel or Portia Noel for a girl last time, but I'm not sure how I feel about them now.

Our basic rules are; nothing biblical, passes the business card test with a little wiggle room, is NOT common AT ALL, and....

has good name-choice variety when coupled with the middle name so that the kid can grow up into his own person and can have a unique name, or a common, easy name or whatever they prefer. I.E. Jett is Steven Jett. He can be Steve, Steven, Jett, eh...okay those aren't a LOT options, but at least one's 'normal' (in case he doesn't turn out to be a strange bird like the rest of his family) and one's him, for now, at least.

Past VNE - I like Hawk. I think people might have trouble with Azure (at best they might think it's Asher). In that vein, have you thought about Sky for a boy? I knew a (dreamy) boy of that name in high school, and while I suppose his full name was probably Schuyler, I have always liked the name Sky.

Also, it seems you're unsure about Sapphire and very sure about Juliet, so why not just go with Juliet? I know an adult Sapphire and while an annoying person, she is not at all pornish. I also like Saff or Saffy, what they called the character named Saffron on Absolutely Fabulous (a Britcom from the 90s).

I love the name Sapphire but dh doesn't. Juliet is a pretty name.
I like Hawk but not Azure and cannot really say why.

Yes! Hadn't thought of that before, will run it by DH. We might consider a different middle name.

We haven't decided, but we really loved the name Edison.

The only problem is that our son is Thomas. I'd be calling out at park for "Thomas, Edison!" Not sure that's a good idea!

Funny thing I'm almost embarrassed to mention....we also see if it passes the cowboy/cowgirl test. For example, when Jett is mutton busting (riding sheep) they call him out on the speaker, "Next up is Jett LastName....Jett LastName. .....he rides, he falls.....All right, give it up for Jett LastName!" It has to be 'cool' enough to be a good cowboy/cowgirl name in case that's what they do as a hobby. (high likelihood around here)

I really like Azure as a boy's name, in theory. But, I also wondered if it would be commonly confused for all too popular Asher. Of course, Jett is confused daily with Jack/Jed/Jeff/Jeb, etc. And, for some reason Sky rubs me the wrong way. Really badly. Always has. I don't know why. (Possibly thinking of the spitty braces-wearing girl from South Park calling her boyfriend Skyler?)

On the other hand, an MDC Mama suggested Jett to us when I was pregnant. We had a chuckle and continued thinking of names, occasionally laughing and saying, "Well, we could use Jett." (Not laughing at the mama, of course, just that two pilots using Jett as a name was crazy.) Well, bam....one day we both just changed our tune and decided not only was it okay, it was THE NAME. We quickly were decided, painlessly.

So, I'm hoping that happens again. I hope when we know it, we know it. That's why we won't just 'pick something.'

As far as Juliet goes, I really like it, as does DH. However, it has a slightly more middle name vibe for me.

I'm glad to hear there's another Sapphire. Does the name fit her annoyingness? Or is she annoying despite or regardless of her name? Does she like her name? Any thoughts?

instead of a good cowboy name...dh has to approve of a boys name as a star quarterback being called out over the loud speaker...LOL!

I know of a Sapphire that's completely normal, named in the '70's by completely normal parents. Not sure if she likes it or not, but I can tell that her dad thinks it's special.

Speaking of precious stones. Anyone heard the name Beryl used? I think it was the name of a female character in a book I read 100 years ago. Too different for my Huz, I think, but I love it anyway.

ooh, I like Sonnet...as I write it on my long list of possiblities.

So, I had Tristan for a boy, but dh says that it does't flow from his lips well. So, I looked some more and came up with these 3 boys names. Anton, Asa and Soren.

I haven't gotten the yays or nays yet from dh.

I knew a girl named Sonnet, her sisters were Lerin and Dorian....and their brother Sean.

I am still trying to find a middle name for Jude (girl). I also keep going back to Cady Charlotte, but DD REALLY wants to name her Jude. She DOES NOT like Cady. PLus I just love (despite not liking siblings with the same initial) the way all of their names sound together. Jewel, Josephine, and Jude.

PastVNE I always got a kick out of the two pilots and Jett. I think it;s great. Hawk sort of goes with it too. I like Hawk. What about Nia for a girl? I knew a little girl named that and loved it.
