Talk of the Nation Science Friday is going to talk about vaccines tomorrow. The only guest is an infection disease dr. They mention the "measles outbreak" in the promo. I would love for moms to call in and give him an earful.

Hmm. I'm sure I'll hear it (I LOVE NPR and listen to it basicly all. day. long. Just ask my DH!! ... But god, the only guest is paul f'ing offit? Ugh.

Yes, he wrote The Cutter Incident, about a lawsuit against the manufacturers of a polio vaccine that caused a case of paralytic polio in the early 1950s. The case that made Melvin Belli, Esquire famous, and is stilll in favor of vaccines.

I know who paul offit is apple, and I'm just apalled if thats really the ONLY guest that TOTN could come up with to talk about vaccines. He's pharma/cdc's biggest pro-vaccine spokesperson, ever. Bout as biased as you can freaking get...

Oh! He was such a jerk! I was livid listening to him, and really upset at how complicit with the "expert" Ira Flato sounded. Chantelle did a fantastic job, but the note they left it on is so degrading to those of us who choose not to vax or selectively or delay vax!

Too bad DH "believes it" if it is on NPR, especially Science Friday. But they usually do much much better with multiple perspectives, but I don't know whether Sci Fri does it the same way.

I also wrote in the comments section on the show as to why the expert panel only had one opinion? I tried to get through to call to ask how many of the said measles cases are vaxed to non vaxed cases. Hmmm that would be interesting.

Yes, this. Even Sci Fri usually seems more balanced. Maybe because I know more about this issue?

But you'd think with such a controvertial issue, they would have found someone with another perspective. I think they were toeing the gov't line.

I suppose when all else fails... snicker and pretend that the one with knowlege doesn't know what they are talkign about. I think mocking and snickering and creating that vibe is contagious.

Glad to know I didn't disappoint you ladies!

I was sweating bullets and sitting at work while speaking on the subject no less!!! I wanted to say so much more..including only 63 children who had the measles virus were not vaccinated, but there was no time. AND they hung up on me..so unfortunately yes, my last remark was "I don't believe that!"

I've done enough of my own research to know what I know...Yes, Dr. Offit, you may not get paid to actually speak out on the vaccines (well, we just haven't found the paper trail yet) but regardless, you still get paid the big bucks by pharma!!
