seeking a mother's helper - a few questions

I'm thrilled that I was offered a WAH position so I can stay home with our baby. I'll need some help, though, so I'm seeking a mother's helper for a mere 5 - 7 hours per week. It would be a great job for a beginner babysitter, since I will be home - I started babysitting this way, too, back in the day. My questions are: how might I find a young person interested in this job? what would be an appropriate amount to pay? I think two afternoons per week would be sufficient, since I'll be doing the rest of my work in the evenings, after dd goes to bed.

any opinions or advice? I would really appreciate it!

I found mine by putting an ad on Craigslist (I found a nanny nearby who was looking to fill her days off). Other ideas: flyers at the supermarket, library, Starbucks, bagel shop, anywhere nannies/babysitters take kids. Contact the guidance counselors' office at the high school and ask about putting up a job listing. Most have a job board or career center associated with the guidance office. You could do the same at any local colleges, but college students would definitely want to be paid more. Ask around at play groups, or if you're not a member of one, call up and just ask the person in charge if she'd be willing to pass the word at the next meeting. Mention it to your dentist, chiropractor, esthetician, anyone like that who meets a lot of people. I got a mother's helper job in high school through my hairdresser, who also cut my employer's hair. Good luck!

You got some great suggestions from thistime!!

Another thought might be at the Y or local community centers who offer the babysitting classes...maybe they can help find one or have a list? Or can point you in the right direction.

Good luck! I think we'd like to have one too after our baby arrives. Keep us posted on how it goes

I believe you may not live that far from me,

try this.

You can set your own needs and zip code.

Don't want to dampen your spirits, but you may need a few more hours then that to actually get some work done. I suggest getting someone who is willing to add some hours if need be.
