Has your pedi ever personally called you?

Ours did.....to tell me that DD had been due for a well check in April. We haven't been in months.

She called and asked why we hadn't brought DD in.

Hmmmm could it be because the last time we were there you pressured us incredibly hard about vaccines? Not to mention telling me that if DD so much as cut herself we must immediately run in for a Tetanus shot so she wouldn't die.

I wanted to avoid a confrontation so I told her it was becuase I had returned to work and our schedule had been crazy. She asked where I was working, I'm a Pedi RN and care for kiddos with trachs who are vent dependant, I told her. Her response to me was "Oh so everyone else is getting taken care of but not your daughter." :

DD has not even had a cold....ever! She is still breastfed. I don't see how avoiding a well baby visit is "not taking care of her".

So then she tells me that DD must have a DTAP and Prevnar immediately since she attends Montessori school while I work.

I wanted to hang up on her LOL.

No, never

He was too busy shooting up babies with vaccines to have the time to call!!

Wow. How insulting that she called you at home to essentially tell you you're a bad parent. Are there any other peds or family practice Drs in the area that you could take your dd to?

Yeah, that crosses the line into rude.

No doc has ever called me personally, even when I wanted them to.

Wow!!! That phone call was not just infuriating, it was very unprofessional and out of place!! If I were you, I wouldn't let it get to you, and I would switch Dr.s. No need to have her in your life!!!!! You are a wonderful parent!!!!

Does anyone know of a decent Ped or Family Practice Doc in the DFW area (who will take a two year old with no vaccines and won't pressure us to give her any)?

I am going to suggest that you report this doctor to his/her governing agency in the county and state for unprofessional conduct with a patient/patient's parent.

That is uncalled for.

I also suggest you find a nice GP, DC or Naturopath. If you still want a pediatrician, ask a local midwife or LLLI for a friendly, more than "decent", pediatrician.

Um, yeah, that's where I would tell her that that kind of crap just cost her a patient.

My ped has called me personally in response to me leaving her a message, but never to harass me and call me a bad mom.

The ped I just had to leave wrote me a hand written note to thank me for choosing his practice.

Ugh. The audacity of her! Yeah, I'd so be shopping around for a new dr.

My son's dr (family provider) has only called whenever I've left him a voicemail with a question. He wasn't thrilled by our decision not to vax, but he accepted it and didn't pressure me too much. Though he did some, it wasn't awful. All in all, he's a really great dr and I'm sad that we're needing to find someone new since we moved.

(in the UK you are assigned a GP for the family and they will send you to a pedi if you need special care)
Our GP called me to remind us to vaccinate and to explain the importance of vaccination on a public health level.
We talked for about 20 minutes, and he was very nice and very worried for us.

Holy crap! Like you couldn't take care of it if your daughter had a major medical crisis, nevermind day to day stuff. Wow, I wonder how the nurses who work with her handle it. Or maybe she doesn't employ any since you can obviously just pull an RN out of a crackerjack box.

There is a yahoo group called apdoctor referal or something like that.

Check your tribe; there are a number of DFW moms on that board.

: Definitely find a new doc. My pedi has called me several times but never about anything like that. We don't vax and she doesn't bat an eye at it. Back when DD2 had pertussis as a newborn, our doc called to check on her and see if I needed anything.
