We just found out we're moving to Crestview! I just got a job offer there, so we'll be going (not as military!) next month. Right now I'm working and DH stays home with the kids and homeschools (he's AWESOME!) and we'll continue with that plan for the time being. I have heard wonderful things about the schools there, though, which is somewhat appealing (the schools around here are not good, dd1 went to kindergarten and that was more than enough).
We're a little nervous about finding enough of a liberal community, especially with all the military around there (I hope this doesn't offend anyone). We're both peace activists (as are the kids, truthfully), Christian liberals, crunchy and not mainstream. We went to a U.U. church in Pensacola when I was in town for the interview, and were glad to find like minded people, but that is in Pensacola, not Crestview. Anyone have thoughts about the liberal community in Crestview?
We'd like to buy some land/a house, but will rent for a bit to give ourselves a sense of the place (and save up again after a lot of unemployment we've been going through). And have room for more chickens, more animals, a very large garden. Any suggestions about more country areas near Crestview or Milton? I saw Baker, which looks appealing and all the places near the Blackwater River State Forest. We are modest in our needs in terms of a house, old and needs fixin is fine with us, but some land and a workshop or room for one would be good.
This is rambling...my head is still spinning a bit over the prospect of moving 500 miles and excitement over my job offer. I look forward to hearing more/meeting some families once we get up there!
