Rubella vax before TTC or not?

I had my titers just checked and found out I do NOT have the rubella antibodies (funny, I distinctly remember getting it when I was 16. Oh well maybe it wasn't rubella?).

SO - should I even consider getting the vaccine or not, given that we're planning on getting pregnant very very soon? (I'm in my 40's so don't want to wait long)

Thoughts please….

If that is what you want, ask your doctor. While you are at it, ask your OB/GYN if he/she is up to date with his/her Rubella Boosters. That would be my guiding decision. They are the experts in your reproductive care and are around pregnant women all of the time.

Good Luck.

Nevermind... I just found this article which talked me out of doing the Rubella vaccine.

Great article. Also, just so that you are aware- in case you have a moral objection to this- the rubella vax was made in aborted fetal tissue. Not an issue for everyone but it sure was for me when i first learned that.

The reason I told you to ask your own doctor is because most doctors are all too aware of the vaccine's ability to cause arthritis, and this can be crippling to an obstetrician who needs to handle little babies, palapate, and check dilatation and station...

The arthritis is usually temporary, but not all of the time.
