Monthly Room Challenge - September = Bathroom - Page 3

My downstairs half bath is all done except for curtains- I want to go look for some fabric sometime this week.

I haven't had much of a chance to get in the upstairs bathroom yet- I need curtains as well for that one plus some organization of the drawers needs to take place.

My progress as of Monday, September 29...

Master Bath:
~ Basic cleaning of whole room Complete...9/8 & 9/9 & 9/11 and again 9/22
~ Deep clean the sink faucet and shower faucet (handles and heads and drain/plug) Complete...9/9 & 9/11
~ Empty cabinet under the sink; wipe it out; put things back and declutter along the way Complete...9/9
~ Empty medicine cabinet; wipe it all down; put things back and declutter along the way Complete (This was a HUGE undertaking since our "medicine cabinets" are three panels wide and quite tall)...9/21 & 9/22

Guest Bath/DD's Bath:
~ Basic cleaning of whole room Complete...9/8 & 9/10...and again...9/24
~ Deep clean the sink faucet and tub/shower faucet (handles and heads and drain/plug) Complete...9/10 & 9/11
~ Empty cabinet under the sink; wipe it out; put things back and declutter along the way Complete...9/9
~ Empty medicine cabinet; wipe it all down; put things back and declutter along the way BIG undertaking...Complete...9/24

Powder Room/Laundry Room (all behind one door):
~ Basic cleaning of whole area Complete...9/8...and again on 9/15
~ Deep clean the sink faucet (head/handles/drain/plug) Complete...9/11
~ Find and/or purchase appropriate screws to attach new cabinet knobs that I already have (They came with screws that are too short for our cabinets. We found the right length for a few and installed those in all the other places...) DH & I confirmed we have to purchase new screws in order to complete this task...9/10... And purchased them...9/12
~ ATTACH NEW KNOBS! Complete...9/14
~ Decide how and where I want to store/hang new broom After giving away the other broom, I decided I want a clamp to hold the new broom handle since there is no hole for a nail, we had one, but it wasn't strong enough...9/12 and I have plan B thought out...9/20
~ Remove old broom from our house (offer it to neighbors; it is an indoor broom and I only need an outdoor one, which I recently got) Complete...9/12
~ Empty cabinets under the sink; wipe them out; put things back and declutter along the way; move certain items to shed for outdoor use; repurpose that space to something else Complete, but I had already removed the outdoor items to the shed and had forgotten...I spread out the existing items under the sink to make it look full even though it could hold quite a bit more...9/15
~ Empty medicine cabinet; wipe it all down; put things back and declutter along the way Complete...9/15
~ Dust the hot water heater closet Complete...9/8...and twice again on other dusting days, but I don't recall the dates.
~ I didn't originally list this as a goal, but I cleaned the inside of the washer. Ya know all that crud that collects between the agitating tub and the lid? I cleaned that and the inside of the lid. Complete...9/9

This is what is left after the entire month of September and having three bathrooms on my list...

Master bath:
~ TOUCH UP PAINT! Not completed, but I *may* be able to squeeze it in tomorrow.

Guest Bath/DD's Bath:
~ Design a shower curtain I have a plan and it requires designing DD's duvet for her bedroom first.
~ Wash, press, cut, and sew fabric Fabric is washed and dried.
~ HANG IT UP!

Powder Room/Laundry Room (all behind one door):
~ DO IT! (referring to hanging new broom) Easier said than done... We could not find the proper strength clamp gadget at Target or Home Depot or Ikea... Hmmmm... 9/12 & 9/13... Not sure where to try next, but I guess I need a Plan B...LOL...We have a plan B, but haven't done it yet...9/29.
~ Hang mini indoor broom next to dryer insert This can only be done after the big broom (above) is done...for spacing purposes.
~ Empty all three cabinets in the laundry area; wipe them all down; put things back and declutter along the way I never got to this task.
~ Contact some plumbers (or other specialists, whoever is required) regarding the possibility of installing a tankless water heater (We need to replace the current water heater in the near future...aiming for early 2009.) I never got to this task.

Whew! I am so grateful for this challenge!!! Without it, I would have only gotten the cleanings done this month. I'm okay with not completing all my goals. I am thrilled with what I *have* been able to accomplish!!! :

Nothing wrong with being picky- after wasting lots of money on junk items for the house, I find it's much better to wait until I find something I love!

Exactly! After the first few years when we did what we could with what little we had, I like to take a bit of advantage of having the luxury to be picky. Of course, our last house took 6 years to be done, hopefully this one won't take me that long

I'll post pics of the powder room tomorrow.

I finally tackled this space. I still want a new tub surround to make the job of cleaning it easier. For now we just refinished the vanity and installed 6 shelves behind the door. These are small sterilite cd boxes that I labeled each one. One has skin care, bath products, our first aid, children items, extra's and hair products. We also placed one large wicker basket on the bottom for rolls of TP. Under the vanity I placed all of the rolled towels and a 4 drawer unit for hair items, hygiene products, curling irons/straighteners and travel items. So far it is staying organized and making our little bathroom cozy and neat.

Is it too late to join? My bathroom is a disaster. I mean well with it, but it's just old and always seems icky to me. I've had the same fabric shower curtain for about 4 or 5 years, and it's got hair dye and small spots of mildew- yuck! It could really use replacing. The bath tub is porous and impossible to get all the way clean. The only thing I've found that even works a little is scrubbing for an hour with a mr clean magic eraser sponge (use gloves if you clean with these and don't let your kids touch them!!!). The sink is also in need of some fixing.

Soooo, sounds like I have my work cut out for me.

This is what is left after the entire month of September and having three bathrooms on my list...

Master bath:
~ TOUCH UP PAINT! Not completed, but I *may* be able to squeeze it in tomorrow. I DID IT!!! In December, LOL, but it is done!!! :

Guest Bath/DD's Bath:
~ Design a shower curtain I have a plan and it requires designing DD's duvet for her bedroom first.
~ Wash, press, cut, and sew fabric Fabric is washed and dried.
~ HANG IT UP!
I went to quilting class last weekend (1/17/09) and I have a plan for DD's duvet and shower curtain now!

Oh man, I had forgotten about some of these things and thought this room only needed the big broom hung up... LOL Anyway, the mini broom and dustpan are hung now. I've decided to just drill a hole in the big broom and hang it on a nail. I already painted a board and attached it to the wall for both brooms and dryer insert (sweater rack) and clamps just don't seem to exist for this thick of a broom handle. A nail will just have to do.

Whew! I am so grateful for this challenge!!! Without it, I would have only gotten the cleanings done this month. I'm okay with not completing all my goals. I am thrilled with what I *have* been able to accomplish!!! :
I thought I would resurrect this topic to say I finally finished our master bathroom in December! :

Thanks It was hard to make it kid-friendly/fun with all of the tile, cherry wood and granite. So I went a little more grown up so they can grow into it.

I guess Flickr limits the mb (?) per month? I don't know why it's an issue. We did get a high-speedy new camera so maybe that's why... ?
