affordable doulas in NE GA

Hi...I've never posted in here, but I guess I am joining my tribe!
I am located in Maysville GA. That's about an hour, maybe a little more, northeast of Atlanta straight up I-85, or about 30-45 minutes from Athens down (up? not sure lol) using Hwy 441.
I am looking for an affordable doula, I most likely will be attempting a VBAC. Or a postpartum doula for after the baby is born, because with my son I had problems with BFing and PPD. Which do you think would be worth it more, I doubt I could afford both (not even sure if I can afford one). Also one thing is that I am due December 22, I'd need someone willing to come around Christmas or on Christmas depending on how things go. Do you think that will be a problem? I don't have problem with someone who is in training. I just am hoping I can get someone to help me with the birth or soon after.
Any recommendations, suggestions, etc at all is gladly appreciated!

Check out BellyWomen.net for lists of doulas that provide free or low-cost doula services in your area. Good luck!

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have any in my area.

Where are you delivering? There are several doulas that go to Gwinnett Medical Center. There are a couple that will go to Athens.

This woman is in Athens. She will work as a labor and/or postpartum doula. You should call her. http://www.fullbloomparent.com/about.php Pat is great!

I just had my 2nd son at ARMC. I really liked my experience. I used Dr Sepesi.

I had an elective repeat c-section for a couple of reasons. But, the nurses there are very supportive of VBAC. In fact, when I went in for my pre-op, they asked if I had ever considered VBAC, and if I wanted to change my mind about my scheduled repeat! They were also great about breastfeeding support after the baby was born.

I was very pleased with my stay there.

Betsy, I have heard that they built a new section for the maternity ward or whatever you'd call it. I haven't seen it yet, is it nice?

We were there the week the new section opened--it's beautiful. Dh said the nursery is very nice, as well, but our baby was only there about an hour total. The rest of the time was spent with me in our room.

Oh, FYI, the hospital based pediatrician seems to be okay clinically, but she never came to see us and let us know what she found. Because of that, on the first day, I wasn't able to tell her to write discharge orders on the baby, and we had to wait for her to round on the second day to discharge the baby. We were going home earlier than expected, though. And, if you use your pediatrician (or just find one in Athens that will see your baby), you don't have to deal with that. I think (hope) she's an okay doctor, just no bedside manner at all.

Check out Labor Of Love Doula and Childbirth Services

www.alaboroflove.org

I delivered at Athens Regional and had a FABULOUS doula from Labor of Love! Can't say enough good things about them and their positive impact on my birth experience! I know that at least a couple of their doulas work with Athens area mothers. They also offer a number of classes, including one on VBAC. Teresa Howard runs the group and she is amazing. She will help you find what you need.

Best Wishes!
