Army Families in Hawaii

my brother, 19, who i raised as well, told me this week that he has joined the army. his on-&-off again girlfriend is also due to deliver in december... so i am looking for information, support, anything! he hasn't left for basic training yet, we have only spoken briefly about the situation earlier in the week but are supposed to spend some time together this weekend. what do i need to know? what to do list should we make prior to him leaving? what type of support groups are there in hawaii for military families? what happens after basic training? meaning - how soon will he likely be sent to iraq? and will he eventually be based in hawaii? as you can tell i have little knowledge in this area and am really seeking any information that anyone has...

We aren't Army so my knowledge is limited.

Since he is not married to his gf, benifits are limited, but her baby, I think after she proves paternity, will get health benifits. (pretty much free healthcare)

I'm not sure what happens after basic for Army guys. I guess they get their MOS (job) and go to their school for that.

I think pretty much all of the Army has Iraq on it's plate, so I would expect him to go.

As for getting stationed in Hawaii, can't help you there either. I know Schofield Barracks is HUGE here, plus Ft Shafter, and there is some sort of training done on Big Island.

Tons of Military/Family support here, but getting stationed here is based on what his area (MOS) is, etc. and not for sure, ever.

Anything he wanted that the recruiter said yes - make sure it is in writing. Will he be back from basic in time for the birth? Does he know what "A School" he'll be off to? Do he and the girlfriend plan to marry?
