Diva cup & cloth mama pads - thoughts and questions - long... - Page 2

Instead of a diva cup there are sea sponges you can use. They work similarly to tampons. You can knit your own tampons, you can use an instead cup (I prefer these.. but they are disposable) and I've heard of some women reusing them. There are many other options out there other than the diva cup and cloth pads. I will put my experience with cloth pads out there though.. Before i started using them my moon time typically lasted anywhere from 7-10 days. I had horrific, awful cramping and the sensation that I'd been kicked in the crotch for the first day or two. When I switched over to cloth AF now last 4-5 days, I don't cramp hardly at all and I no longer have that kicked in the crotch sensation. I really love my cloth pads!

Oh.. and I considered the diva cup but it just really doesn't LOOK comfortable to me. I can't imagine that thing up inside of me. I would look in to the other options I mentioned but I would also consider giving it another chance.

Before I had my baby I used Diva no problem. then my first period PP, I ust cold not get a proper fit for many cycles, till finally the last one. If I get it right in I do not even feel it and ended up forgetting to clean it during the day. The only thing that bothers me is it still little too long even after removing the stem. I hear there are other menstrual cups that are shorter. I do love Instead cups as well but they are dispposable. I used cloth when I was a teenager due to the fact we did not have a choice (country I come from it took a lot of effort to get disposable pads), it is funny how bad I felt having to take care of them then, and now thinking about going back to cloth liners after all that when I have a choice.

Many interesting replies here, thanks everyone for the input!

A few more thoughts I know have:

I can't imagine trimming the stem from the Diva Cup, then I'd never get it out of me! I felt like it got sucked deep up inside me and I could barely reach the stem as it was. Yikes!

Sea sponges and homemade reusable tampons? Oh, my, more things to think about.

And lastly, so many people mentioned that after using cloth pads they have shorter and easier periods. Now why on earth would that be? I am really curious about this. Like is there a scientific reason for this- is it a mental thing? a reaction to chemicals? Interesting.

I've heard this too. Supposedly the reason is because of the chemicals in the pads. The theory is that the chemicals have a reaction of pulling the blood from your body *shrug* seems a little odd. But stranger things have happened and we've all dealt with weird side effects of chemicals.

I'm planning to place an order with http://www.joyfullivingnaturals.com/jln/index.cfm soon to get started with cloth myself.

You know I have to say that even with this being my 2nd cycle of using the Diva cup that I noticed my period wasn't as long. Last month I had cramps, I've had horrible cramps my whole life (even though I exercise regularly and stretch/yoga). This month not one cramp. Only problem with that was I was totally taken by surprise when my cycle started! lol

I really didn't like the Keeper, but used cloth (lunapads mainly- the other's I didn't like so much) PP and loved them. Then I got the Diva and I had just a twinge of random bleeding at around 9mos PP and got all excited and popped it in thinking it was a random early AF, even though it was totally random spotting (no AF) I loved the Diva for the few hours I wore it. I could tell Diva was much more comfortable than the Keeper for me.

I guess all this is that you just have to find what works for you. good luck!

I absolutely hated the Diva Cup. It was never comfortable no matter where I I put it or at what angle or with the stem cut off or lubricant on it....nothing. Always bothered me.

I have used the Instead menstrual cups with more success. They are supposed to be disposable but I wash, dry and reuse them thru the same month and then toss them.

But mostly I just use cloth pads now. I use the AIO pads from TLC Pads, and also the round pads from hagrag.com.
