I am encouraged by images of powerful women, especially those who can balance roles.
But Sarah Palin is not the first. She is not even the first female to run as Vice President on a mainstream ticket. That would be Geraldine Ferraro who ran on the Democratic vice presidential ticket with Walter Mondale back in 1984.
And if I recall, Winona LaDuke, a Native American woman ran on the Green Party ticket in 1996 and 2000.
I believe there have been others. Sarah Palin is not as monumental and she's certainly not a first.
And, I think we have to seriously ask, if Hillary Clinton had not made such huge strides in this year's Democratic primaries and if Hillary Clinton had not gotten so much media attention, as well as delegate votes, would McCain and his campaign have chosen Sarah Palin?
Hillary Clinton, and many, many other women on both sides of the party, have done more for our daughters to break down the glass ceiling and promote balance. IMHO.
And Hillary's policy platform actually promotes and strengthens useful laws that help balance...such as family leave and health care, and child care.
And it was Hillary's husband Bill Clinton who signed into law the Family and Medical Leave Act.

It also worries me about returning to work after three days. I'd like someone who knows it's important to take care of yourself first if you're to take care of everyone else. Some people may take it as a positive however - she will not let her kids needs interfere with being a good leader.

I totally agree. I think anyone who breastfeeds should be applauded, but that doesn't mean she's qualified to be VP. Otherwise, I could be VP 'cause I breastfed for 2.5 years.
And I'm not qualified to be VP, even though I do AP.
