Brother being required to have MMR for college

My brother has just started law school at Creighton in Omaha, NE. It is a private school and they are requiring all students to have the MMR vaccine (2 doses). He has had no vaccines up to this point and would prefer not to, especially since he has an unvaccinated 6 month old dd and the MMR is a live vaccine.

The school has said that if he can prove he will be significantly hurt or damaged he can have the vaccine waived (but how in the world do you prove that you personally will be injured prior to being injured?!?). Doesn't matter how many studies he can provide regarding vaccine injury.

He's been told that if he can get a pediatrician to say that his dd would be at risk by him getting vaccinated then they'll defer his requirement until she's supposed to have the MMR (12-18mos). Since dd was 3 weeks early, they should be able to delay her vaccine until 18mos, but they still need a pediatrician who will vouch for the exposure risk.

So, does anyone know a pediatrician in Omaha who is friendly re: delayed vaccines and vaccine exposure and might be willing to vouch for my brother delaying/not getting his vaccines?

Thanks!

This doesn't sound right!!! Can your brother do a religious exemption? They can't exclude do to religion right?

I think since they're a private school they can pretty much do whatever they want?

Do you have any prior history of a family member having reactions to the MMR? If your family has ever vaccinated before?

This is sooooo soooo wrong, on so many levels!!!! How about respect of a choice of a grown person?

I hope there is someone on this site who is a little more up to date on the matter, or dealing with the same thing... I will look around today

There is always a loophole

Isn't Creighton a Catholic university with a fairly visible pro-life stance, as well? Could he oppose on the pro-life fetal cell argument?

Dollars to doughnuts they receive federal money. In which case, they have to give him a religious exemption. They don't have to LIKE it.

Let us know how it goes!!!! Happy you found it!

I am seriously thinking about printing up a lot of this stuff, esp. for the states I would most likely live in, and having them handy at all times.
