kitchener stitch question

So what happens if you get to the end of your kitchener stitch and you still have two on the needle? None of the descriptions of how to do the stitch ever seem to mention this.

I I think you thread the yarn through the last 2 stitches and slide them off, then weave your ends in. It's been a while since I made socks!

you should always have an ven number of stitches on your needles when doing the kitchner stitch. if you started with an even number and end with an uneven number I would take it out and try again. If you hav an unven number to start I would ither balance them by taking one and puting it on the other needle (even number too many) or choose two to work together (one extra stitch).

It's not that it's uneven, there's one stitch left on each needle- it's just not the slip off stitch y'know? So my question is about what happens if you don't end with slipped off stitches?

One would think the pattern would consider this, so maybe I am doing something wrong?

It looks fine though and it's just a diaper cover, so I'm going to call it done and see what happens when I knit another one.

I knit the front stitch and slip it off the needle, then purl the back stitch and slip it off the needle and call it good.

YES to this!

I use the Kitchner Stitch to finish up my baby booties and I always end up with 1 stitch on each needle. To get the off the needles I continue as you would if there were more stitches on the needles. Get it? It always ends up looking good.

Thanks!

Great! This is what I've been doing, it just seemed a little strange to me that the pattern wouldn't end with the slip off stitches, y'know?
Good to know I'm doing it right!

Me too - but clarifying that by "knit" I mean that's the direction I enter the stitch with my tapestry needle.
