I'd like to make some baby hats for charity, but I'd like to pose a question to other moms. I live in a warm climate, so my babies didn't need much more than a Hanna Andersson pilot cap. Most of the patterns for easy baby hats I've seen do not have any kinds of ties to keep them on. Does this type of hat actually stay on the baby's head or does it tend to slip off? I'm thinking of the type they often give new babies at the hospital- I don't want to spend time making something that really wouldn't be useful. Any advice???

They do come off, especially with newborns.
I like the pilot hats myself. I just downloaded the pattern from Little Turtle Knits the other day and I'm going to start on a gift for someone who just had a baby.
Although my babies tend to be born with lots of hair and we don't live in a very cold climate, so I never worry for too long about baby hats.

If you're making them for a NICU,from my experience, they keep it pretty cool in there so they put hats on the babies sometimes
