Nursing HURTS!

So my DS is a little over 3 weeks old and I've been experience a LOT of pain recently. We've seen a few LC recently the most recent one who was highly recommended and is also a herbalist and homeopathist told me we still have symptoms of thrush (we got thrush 3 days after the birth) in addition to having plugged ducts that were starting to get infected so we had to be concerned about mastitis.

Also she said DS had a high palate and suggested a nipple shield.

She gave me a lecithin cream and suggested I add lecithin to my diet. Has anyone taken lecithin?

Also I'm not sure if this stuff is helping or not - I feel a little tossed around from all the LC's. My doula also recommends I go see this doctor who specializes in breastfeeding issues (she's an internist and a certified LC).

Any feedback? I'm just trying to get my bearings here...

Dd had a high palate and strong suck. Turned my nipples to hamburger for the first few weeks.

I did not use a nipple shield. I didn't want to extend the learning process any more than necessary. I would use one if it were that or giving up- but short of that I would personally avoid it.

good luck!

Just wanted to let you know that I was on MDC over 5 weeks, when my DD was just born, frantically asking for advice. DD was--and still is, a super-sucker, and I was going nuts with the discomfort and pain. I was afraid of the next feed...

What I did:
Iced my nipples after every feed.
Used Lansinoh to help myself heal after every feed.
Bought some nipple shells to prevent my nipples from being rubbed/chaffed by my clothing (or I went around naked from the waist up for 4 weeks).
Saw a few LCs and continually worked on my latch issues.

Around 6 wks or so, the pain gradually disappeared. Now I can nurse half asleep in the dark!

HTH!
