Vaxing w/ Low Immune System

Okay, so if vaccinating at all (which we have not done in quite a while since I became more informed), I know that you should not give a vaccination if your child is sick. You don't want to give a vaccine if their immune system is already low and working hard.

Would the same apply if you are dealing with food allergies? We are just now finding out that DS has a dairy allergy so now we are needing to begin to repair his gut with lots of probiotics, etc. So, would it also not be such a good idea to give any type of vaccine at this time because his gut needs to be repaired so right now his immune system could be affected and down at the moment?

(I know there are many other reasons not to vax. I am just trying to figure out what to do at our well visit appt this week. It is the 2yr appt, but he is 2.5y/o - we are late getting to it. Still on the fence as to what to do, if any this time around. We haven't vaxed in quite a while...since before he was 1.)

I suggest you ask your doctor since they are supposed to up on those things...

When my children were small, my pediatrician had a large sign in his waiting room that said, "If your child is sick today, they will NOT be receiving vaccines today." That practice was based on his experience. That was the mid-1980s.

When my DH was in his last stage of cancer, I was told to keep recently vaccinated children away from him; that is, people with live vaccines or flu vaccines. That is what I was told. I am not sure at all if it is true, but I was surprised to hear that kind of information. It was pertinent since I did have small children at the time and my children had friends and cousins, of course, come to the house to visit.

It depends on your Doc and the advice you get... I was told allergies had nothing to do with vaccines... I don't believe that!

I was lied to with every visit...

Eggs or jello allergies, I wouldn't give vaccinations at all...

If I were dealing with suspected allergies I would NOT vax at all until they were figured out. There are many ingredients in vaccines that a child could be allergic to. AND vaccine reactions could confuse figuring out what the true allergies are as well.

I'm sorry about your DH.

I know I've been told not to have my kids vaxed with live virus vaccines as long as I'm going through chemo because of my low white blood cell count and the higher risk of an infection.

I am absolutely positive that the one round of vaccines that DD got were the trigger for her food allergies. There were other reasons leading up to that, but the vaccines just put her over the top and her immune system just went on overload and started reacting to everything.

So no- I would absolutely not give vaccines to a child that already has food allergies.
