Traveling to the Dominican Republic

I am confidant in my decision not to vax my 18 mo DS who is BF, not in daycare and lives in Canada...

However, we are tentatively planning a trip in February to the Dominican Republic. I hadn't even thought of vax's being an issue until another mother of a fully vax'd son told me she was off to the doc to get extra ones for the trip - she doesn't know what ones even.

Anyone here had to grapple with this issue before?

We are not leaving the 5 star resort, but I am mostly concerned with Hepatitis from swimming in the pool and occasionally drinking the bath water you know? Does anyone have any info to dispel my fears or add to them? I am just sort of working this out now.

We just got back from DR in June. We flew into La Romana which is probably not where you're headed but I'd be happy to share our experience via PM if you'd like.

I was in the DR with my 11 month old breastfed son last December. He is vaccinated, but even if he wasn't, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. The resorts are extrememly clean, and all of the water that you would drink is bottled. The swimming pool water is chlorinated, and I wouldn't be concerned about that.

Go and enjoy yourself- nothing to worry about.

We went to DR in March of this year with DS who was 3 and stayed in a nice area...however we visited friends and DS ran around in the yard barefoot and picked up a frog and palyed outside all day with other DR kids. He was fine and so were we. We even spent a day at the "locals" beach, and drank coconut juice from a fresh coconut a walking vendor was selling. I would not vax at all. Just keep the bottled water going and you will be fine. I was also 3 months pregos and did great.
