good head band patterns

it can be crochet or knit, I think I prefer knit though. Id like it to be tight. Im thinking of just doing cotton kitchen yarn and doing a ribbing? sound silly? I hate spending $3 on headbands when I can just make them

That is nice!

Assuming you mean like a hairband (ie. to keep hair out of your face) and not something to keep your ears warm as well then there is one at the Lion Brand website, a free pattern called Hair-Raising Headband. I didn't want to copy and paste but it is very simple. Cast on 8 stitches and then K1, P1 for one row then P1, K1 the next row and repeat those two rows. I think that's seed stitch? It turns out quite pretty. I made one out of some thin cotton yarn I had.

I made another one, too, that I really like. I'll try to find the pattern.

Here it is:

Hope that works. If not go to the DIY network website, Knitty Gritty show and look at the show index for To Hide and To Hold. I did not make it with the pocket but just used the stitch pattern to make a regular hairband.

I made a doll headband in a simple garter stitch- it ended up being a little too big for her but when making a headband for a person it shouldn't be too hard to fiddle with it to make it the right size. I made it about an inch across and as long as needed, then sewed the ends together.

I wouldn't use cotton if you want it to be tight -- it'll get stretched out so easily (you can always wash it, but...). I made one for a friend several years ago adn it's holding up great, out of wool/alpaca blend. I'd go for something with more memory, like...wool.
