As of Aug. 5, Colorado law requires public and private employers to make reasonable efforts to provide a room or other location close to the work area, other than a toilet stall, where an employee can express milk in privacy, according to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.

"Students thought 'what about us?' " said Sunda Friedman TeBockhorst, an adjunct faculty member at Front Range, who teaches the class. TeBockhorst said as a graduate student at the University of Northern Colorado several years ago with a young baby at home, she faced some challenges of finding a place to pump.

"It feels fundamentally unfair because many (students) are mothers, too, and they are working really hard to make their families better," she said.
