I can't find a pattern to sew or a pair of frickin' jeans to fit my dd!!!!!

WHY do NONE of these stupid companies not post measurements??? How can you possibly choose a size when you have nothing to go by????

I think I need to sew them for 2 reasons - she is a gazelle and I can't afford fancy jeans which seems the only choice to fit an odd size.

Here are her measurements:

waist 22 1/4
hip 27 1/2
front rise 7 1/2
back rise 9 1/2
inside leg 28 3/4
outside waist to floor 35
If you have any suggestions I'd be ever so grateful, most of the patterns I could find either only showed yardage, or didn't have jeans at all. What happened to Vogue's kid section???

Posting measurements means nothing to me. I can't picture them. However my oldest daughter was very small for her age. I used to buy her clothes at JC Penney. Arizona Jean's come in Slim. I don't know if that helps you at all.. but I thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks, slims are not slim enough and too short. We spent a lot of time shopping and she just cried. she's like reed thin and so tall, and she is just gonna keep getting taller. She is 4'7 and 8 yo, she still wears clothes she wore for the last 3 summers. She even wore dresses I had made her at 2&3 as shirts this summer. I swear I am feeding her, but this is how I grew too.

I have bought slim jeans and taken them to a tailor to have them taken in thinner. (costs about $12) If your machine is heavy duty enough to go through all that denim you could do it yourself- my machine is not.)

If the problem is the length, find a pair of pants that fit everywhere but the length and dismantle them to make your own pattern. All you would need to do is make the legs longer so they wouldn't be too short. You could probably find a pair of too short pants for a buck or two at a thrift store so you could dismantle them and make your own pattern with just a length adjustment.

I did find this link for arizona jeans. was looking at their website to try to find a 15 short in juniors. no luck. But atleast I found out what the inseam lengths were.

Looks like your kiddo needs a TAll and Slim whereas mine needs a Petite and plus. Want to go into business together and make Jeans for all shapes and sizes?
I'd probably buy a pair and adjust by taking them in down the sides like someone else mentioned. But I think the problem is finding them long enough am I right?

You know, I was folding the clothes and came across and old pair of my oldest DD's jeans. I was putting them in the drawer for DD2 when I noticed that at size 14/16 they had the adjustable waist belts inside them. These were OshKosh. I didn't think they put them in the upper sizes.

Try The Children's Place (jeans for $20 at the most). Your DD is bigger than my 9 y/o DD and they fit her well. The waists are slim AND adjustable so I crank them to the last button.

Here's from their web site:

size 8-9 height 54"-57" waist 22"-22 1/2"

Try a store like Lucky that make their jeans with an actual waist measurement, not a number. Or Express - I have a friend that's VERY tiny and she's had luck there. I agree with getting a tailor to better fit the pant.

I can sew them, but most of the software is PC only, and store jeans are all too short and more than $15 which is all I have for a budget. I think I might take the idea of taking apart one of last year's pair. They are too big at the waist now, but that will change, I can do the elastic thing, I just cringe because I grew up with giant bumps around my waist because I was that thin too. I can make a pattern from them and make them longer. If I had my sewing room built -DP:- I could find all my drafting tools and whip out a pattern in no time. I have beautiful curves and grain plotters and everything, but the are burried behind all my books in the storage unit and I just about squashed myself trying to reach my fabric the other day I used to sew professionally, but it's a little more than I can handle mentally these days, plus I live rurally now. Not much call for a silk sposa wedding gown.

I add elastic to the back of the jeans... I cut a slit along the back, a few inches on each side of the center, in the inside layer of material. I add elastic and sew shut. It has worked well without creating funny bumps, it just gathers it a little in the back.

I feel for you. DD has a size 10 slim waist with length of a size 14!

We're pretty close, I think we'll be there by Yule. I was such a gangly gazelle until I was close to eleven and then Kaboom! Puberty at lightning speed! I hope she doesn't do that part the same

Jeans are really hard to sew because the fabric is so thick.

Does she have to have jeans or would she wear other styles of pants? Leggings are very easy to take in if you buy them in the right length. Even more simple kinds of pants, in thinner fabric and simpler design (not all those pockets) are easier to sew- I'd get her patterns that fit in the waist/hip/rise and then lenghthen the legs as needed.

Dresses and jumpers are also easy- buy the right length and they won't fall down!

DD has always worn slim jeans w/the adjuster. Recently we got her a pair of Old Navy jeans and she got a *regular* size. I can't remember which style it was, but they were really thin cut. Usually the regular would fall right off of her. She is 9, btw, and 4'8".

We do need jeans at least for barn work. We tried some overalls yesterday and they are either too short in the legs or go down to her knees in the crotch. A friend from way back in my Detroit days is sending me a Burda pattern. I have an industrial machine so the thickness isn't a big deal. We tried several different brands of jeans and none of them were long enough so now I just have to find some good denim. Around here all the denim is Amish focused and pretty stiff, but I know I can get some nice stuff in Detroit this weekend. Thanks for all the help!

Inseam

Harrietsmama,

Can you post the inseam from where it starts in the crotch down to the leg? That would be more helpful, as that is how the stores give their measurements.

When I was younger I couldn't find jeans that fit.

I bought regular jeans in the smallest size I could find and then took them in by hand on the inside of the legs and hemmed the bottems by hand. It took FOREVER as bellbottems were in style, the big bells from the 70s.

When I got to college I discovered designer jeans...and I was THRILLED! They carried petites and they were "slim" enough that I didn't have to do any sewing. I opted to own fewer jeans and buy the expensive kind that I didn't have to sew to make fit me.

Also, don't rule out boys jeans. They tend to run slimmer through the hips. At 30 I was wearing a 14 boys slim in Levis.

Good luck!

I'm fairly certain that these will work: http://www.aeropostale.com/product/i...entPage=family

The size she'd need would be 00 short. They are on sale for 19.95, but you could always order a couple pair on ebay for less.
