The size she'd need would be 00 short. They are on sale for 19.95, but you could always order a couple pair on ebay for less.
Hmmm, that would be interesting to try, they are close in the waist and good in the length, the hips are pretty big around though. I'll have to work the budget and see if we could swing it - I have to drive an hour each way just to get here, but if I can find some mamas to carpool with and do a try-on, it would save a ton of work sewing! Thanks!

I guess this is more of a sewing solution but...

how bout take a pair of pants that fit's her every where but the length, and add some sort of decorative insert/band. I'll see if I can find a pic of what's in my head.

Some people swear by this website.

could you get juniors 00? seems like those should be close, at least and you could go by that. my friend has a almost 23" waist (smaller than my 3yo!) and she wears 00 and has had a few taken in by a tad, or just left them be if its okay to be a tad loose.

I get what you are saying. Her Dad is going to meet up with my friend while he has the kids in Detroit and he's going to buy the stuff and Harriet gets to pick the fabric - tres cool I think I still am going to let her go through my ribbon lace and what ever stash so they will have some personality, at least one pair. The goats would chew all the decorations off! I'm always amazed by what they get a hold of.

I looked at a ton of these on ebay and aeropostale based on pp recommendation, only one style was 23, the rest were 27! I had a 27 waist until I had my kids!!! but I had major junk in the trunk so I made all my pants. I even convinced my x to help me make a 'butt form' like a dress form. I just put on thick silky tights, had him use the skinny duct tape strips trick, and very carefully cut down each side, tape it back together. We had used a yard stick like you would hem a skirt to mark the bottom, I cut along those lines and made a base. I used that 'great stuff' insulation foam and did a few rows at a time and stuffed the inside with news paper, peeled off the tights, covered it with a fresh pair and voila! Butt form! How weird is it to be able to examine your own butt in your hands! But the pants I made on it fit soooo well! then a few months later I got pregnant with Harriet!!! almost nine years later, I think it's time for another craft project I am holding steady at 160 and while it's not the ideal 150, I think my body likes it here and so... Ok one thing at a time :

I wear a 00 and trust me, they won't fit a child. The legs will be bigger, the hips (and bum) will be bigger and they will be way too long (the inseam on most of mine are 34").

I don't know why this (and the description of how it was made) made me laugh so hard!!!

If you know sewing, and it sounds like you do, the burda pattern is a great way to go. I have the opposite problem from your daughter. I am rather large and in charge, but I can take any of their patterns and alter them and they come out looking great.
They really are a nice pattern to work with. I just trace the patterns onto some newsprint and then alter because I don't like to mess up pattern tissue by cutting into it. I'm always afraid I will need a different size for someone else some day. But the patterns are made really nicely.

It was pretty funny making it, especially holding your own butt in your hands!!!

I agree!! I love burda patterns, even before they started adding seam allowance, which I thought made it easier!

Adding a ruffle or a cuff trim to the bottom can make too short jeans fit longer. I've had to do it occasionally for my skinny girls =)

I wear a 00 too and I have a full butt and am 34" around the hips. Even the stretchiest are going to bag on an 8 yr old with 27" hips!

Plus the shortest 00s I have seen still have 30" inseam.

I know, and it would probably fit into fashion pretty easily now, but it _didn't_ when I was a kid and all I could hear was 'ding dong the witch is dead' in other words saying I had on bell bottoms ugh. Now they are in fashion! I would have to add about 5 inches at the bottom to make them fit in both places at this point. Thanks though! The burda pattern is working great! she's an 8 around and a 14 length
