You're not un-doing anything!

I hate the term uncircumcised. It is such a misnomer. I know that I'm not the only one here. I just need a minute/place to vent. Uncircumcised also bothers me because I feel it reinforces our culture's view of circumcision as the default. You have to uncircumcise your boys because boys are meant to be circumcised, right? WRONG! You're not un-doing anything! You are leaving your baby the way he was born, the way nature created him and intended him to be.

I get that some circumcisers do not like the term intact (although it is accurate). I sometimes use "natural" for those who do not like the term intact or even noncircumcised (although it still speaks to circ being the "default") but I refuse to use the term "uncircumcised".

Any thoughts?

I always use the term "intact" because it says in one word what a circumcized penis is- NOT intact. And yes, it may bug some people, especially those that circ and feel great about it or simply can't/won't admit that it was wrongwrongwrong. If it bugs them- well, too bad. But that would show they KNOW it's wrong and just feel defensive. I don't care if I get labeled "weirdo intactivist", I read that a coupe times online- some people think you trying to be "controversial" by using that term.

They refuse to see the truth, because it hurts especially if you did that to your own helpless children.

It's like "non-smoker"- which puts the "smoker" at the default and the person not smoking is a "non-smoker". Weird. "Uncircumcised" always sounds as if something's "missing".

I use "intact" and that word alone can be an eye-opener to some people.

I've had people say to me they don't like the word "intact" because it makes it sound like circumcised boys are not whole and are missing something.

I am unmastectomized and unhysterectomized myself. Unlobotomized, too.

I agree that "uncircumcised" is a silly term.

You know, I've never thought of it like this. I'm all about being a lactivist and framing breastfeeding as the norm, but I never thought of circumcision the same way. Thank you for posting this. I'm going to make an effort to use "intact" now.

My boys are both circed, I am ok with all those terms. I just hate terms like "mutilated" and "butchered." Those are accurate too but hurtful and uneeded. Can I just be sorry without hearing how I am a horrid monsterous child abuser? YK?

I always use the term "Intact" as well, no matter who it upsets. If they don't like it then too bad. IMO

I also think the term "uncircumcised" is STUPID!!

Know what else? When I was pregnant with my 4th someone called me names to try and sway me and I decided to go ahead with circing as a defense mechanism. Thankfully, I had enough sense that it stayed with me and I researched on my own. Others? Maybe not. Plus it was a girl. But I wouldn't have circed by the end of that pregnancy. Wanna help boys or be right? :

I have a son who is circumcised, and I prefer the word intact.

I wish someone would have just one time said, Our son is intact, and beautiful. That is all it would have taken for me to look a little deeper.

I was not allowed to use the word Intact for one of my other boards b/c it implied that the circed boys were not whole. I agree "uncirced" is not my choice term.

I think I am on that same board with you. I see uncircumcised all over that board and that is what precipitated this rant. It's unreal the amount of denial and misinformation on that board.

Yea, they are. And it's not just a piece of loose, useless skin.

Ah, yes. I was always careful to call formula the "breastmilk substitute"!

Yes, I use intact. And when I really want to rabble rouse on other forums, I say I left my son "whole".
